I guess Ill just call this my shooters epitaph. I didn't think Fuquay Guns would be the cause, but they are.

I've been a shooter all my life. And a reloader. And a caster. And a Civil War, Rev War, Buckskinner and Old West Reenactor. I've taught many others to shoot, as well as hunter safety. I was taught as a kind that the long history of our country was marksmanship, at least, thats what they told me in CMP.

I learned in the days of blued steel and walnut. How to keep my groups tight. When cops carried revolvers instead of semi autos. I never looked down on anyone elses' guns. I never engaged in firearm elitism, revolver vs semi auto, 9mm vs 45ACP, you name it. The shooting world had a place for everyone I thought. But as Fuquay Guns and Gold made me realize today...I'm irrelevant.

My eyes are not what they were. There was a time when I could ring the steel at 300 yards with iron peep sights. But probably not anymore. I can still keep em in the 10x ring though.

I went to Fuquay Guns last year to sell an old antique double barrel 10 gauge. Im not an FFL, Im not on Gunbroker. I just dont have the resources, but I know they do. So I was only looking for about 40% of it's value. I was turned down cold. Without a consideration. What was I told? "After all...its not a Glock."

Fast forward to this weekend. My Krag deer rifle. Its taken more whitetail than I can could. Excellent shape, side mount scope and all. Again, I dont have the resources, and old looking for 40% of it's used price. Once again, not even the time of day. "Its not like its a Glock."

Thank you Fuquay. You made me realize that Im irrelevant. A dinosaur. Because every firearm I have is not a Glock. So I no longer matter. I know that they are a business, and they have to make a profit. But I guess unless its a Glock, I shouldnt bother.

So I'll find a dealer, maybe on backpage if I have to. My Sharps rifle. My '66 Yellowboy. Dad's WWII 1911. They are irrelevant just like me. They will all go. It's not like they are a Glock. And I guess since I dont own a Glock, I should finally give up the ghost.

I didn't post this looking for sympathy or self indulgence. Maybe I just posted this to remind people what I was taught - there's room for everything in the shooting world.

Greetings and welcome to CFF! Happy to have you here.

Why not give them a try in our "Buy, Sell, Trade" (BST) forum we have here? CFF members have a myriad of likes and interests in all types of weaponry.

Anyway, cheers to a nice Saturday and welcome aboard.

All guns are welcome here. Glad to have you with us.

BTW... I do not now, nor likely ever will own a Glock.

@dylaninwv , welcome to the forum. My friends talk about this all the time. The beautiful blued steel and walnut guns are just not "in" any more. Everyone wants black plastic guns. I have my share of black plastic but I still shoot and admire the older guns. But, we are dying out.

Welcome, Dylan. Glad to have you hanging out with us.

Tell us more about your dad's 1911. Post pictures, too, if you can. I'm sure it has some great stories.

Ummmm...welcome to CFF?!?! :D

Seems a lot of us (yours truly included) have interest in that 1911. Maybe in this forum you'll get more than 40%.

@dylaninwv , welcome and we are glad to have you. When I have something odd or just want something gone I have been using Carolin Gun Runners for years. They consign just about anything and are realistic about what you can expect. Their terms are not bad and they have always been honest and upfront with me. I too find I am less relevant in the world of Glocks, so consider yourself in good company here, as many of us have seen a summer or two while wearing a gun not made of plastic.

If you don't grab a chair and sit a spell with us, I'll consider that as being rude.

I'm just a couple of years older than you. You want to get my heart racing? Show me an old Colt or S&W revolver. I have a Colt 1911. I gave away to my grand.son a Ruger Super Blackhawk. He was admiring it. I said keep it. Better to see him with it before I am gone anyway.

You would be amazed at the diverse group you have here. They know the value of those old guns as you call them.

If you are sincere in wanting to sell them post them up as was mentioned above.

Join in and have a good.time here.

And ny the.way. Welcome.

Welcome to CFF, enjoy the forum, I think you'll find a couple of old guys on here that think the older stuff is still king of cool, my self included

Thanks everyone. My apologies...I sometimes get frustrated over the "my highway or go away" un-inclusive attitude of some shooters, epsecially in todays' somewhat unfriendly climate. Fair to say, I will never set foot in Fuquay G&G ever again

I will certainly post the two in question in the Buy Sell Trade is just a few.

In the meantime, I'll post the below photo for enjoyment purposes.

This is my great-grandfathers H&R .32S&W and shoulder holster. He was a Town Marshall in the Old West for over 20 years. He carried this, a set of Darby Cuffs and a set of brass knuckles as Marshal. That was it.

He was born in a sod house on the Nebraska Territory in '65. In '71, he went to NE Kansas around Newton/Abilene to live. Great great Grandad was a circuit preacher, and officiated a wedding once that Wild Bill attended. Suffice to say, great grandad grew up in the world of gunfighters.

At 19, he left for Medicine Lodge KS and was hired as the town jailer. In 1884, one old Billy the Kids' old gang member robbed the bank and killed two men. They were caught and put in jail. Later that night, the town lynch mob cam. Grandad stood with the County Sheriff and tried to stop them, but they were overpowered, and the robbers were killed.

G-grandad died in 1931. I never met him, but I know the story because he wanted his children to remember two things in life - always do whats right and in the law...and what a truly ugly thing mob justice is.

This is a photo of the robbers. Grandad is holding the jail cell open.

Extremely cool. Thanks for sharing!

Don't hate on FG&G. They are a business and they know the market a lot better than us. This is coming from a guy who started a thread about his dissatisfaction with FG&G also. I'm
in my 50's and if I had to guess I would consider AK's as my favorite firearms. I only like them dressed in wood, something about th blue steel and wood gets me going.
Come in and stay a while.your only irrelevant around here if you choose to be,

Welcome and thanks for joining up with us.

Howdy from the hills of WNC, nd welcome aboard!

I shot my Glock & AR today... but it wasn't that long ago I shot Dad's High Standard .22 and my own S&W model 15.

Great story about your great grandad. Looking forward to more of your tales.

Defintely post the cool old firearms here. You'll likely sell them fairly. If not you'll get suggestions on where they will sell better. Great guns and stories. Welcome.

Welcome ... FGG is a great shop but as others have said the more "trendy" stuff tends to be in their wheelhouse. Now you baited us with the WWII 1911 and Sharps you gotta post 'em and if you do want to part with we have an eclectic bunch ... heck someone posted a Röhm .22lr revolver for sale and we had a good little history on it and somebody snapped it up but post a Glock and it goes unnoticed ... maybe we're where dinosaurs go to have fun!

I know - my apologies. I wasn't trying to bash so much on FGG. More of the attitude of the sale staff. I guess it was just another reminder of how far we have fallen. I remember being taught to shoot my a man who worked his whole life at Remington after apprenticing there as a young kid, who took tremendous pride in being a craftsman and turning out excellent products. He always taught me that there's room for the hunter, plinker, gunsmith and novice. I dont bash the plastic products - they shoot great, they are just not for me. But I also dont blithely dismiss those that do.

Not sure I am following exactly as to what happened, but Fuquay gun does employ at least two or three people who know all about and appreciate the older stuff. Not everyone there is a tactical Timmy.

Welcome. I love FG&G, but they aren't all things to all people.

Try this guy. Some folks I know have gotten very good results. I have not personally used him.

Oh, and put the items up for sale here, as someone said above. Plenty of folks will be happy to offer you 40% of what your stuff is worth. <snicker>

Thanks for posting this. I'm not planning to go any time soon (!) but none of us is getting any younger. I've prepared a detailed inventory and instructions for my wife for disposing of my guns when I have exited the stage. I have similar taste in firearms to the OP, and I was going to tell her to get in touch with Clay at FG&G; this is a better option for the 'classic' stuff. She is not one to go online to sell them. Of course if I see it coming, I'll post them here!

Dylaninwv has posted a very nice Krag sporter for sale, well worth what he is asking, and the old shotgun looks interesting too. Looking forward to more posts from him, with or without firearms.

That rifle sold before many were out of bed this morning. That was a nice Krag sporter!

Mainly I bought it to help him out. An older guy that has to sell his gun collection in order to raise funds for a down payment on a house is someone worth helping.

It was clearly worth what he was asking too.

You're a good man, Scott.
