So, I love the Galil Ace. It's one of my favorite rifles and the one I have, I'll probably never let it go ... But it's not perfect.
The factory handguard, much like me, is short and very wide. It's not very comfortable in the hand and leaves alot to be desired. The RS regulate rails are really cool....but also really expensive and do nothing for heat mitigation. These Ace barrels are a relatively light profile and as such get hot quick so RS was out of the question.
I saw a guide on the AK Files where a gentleman installed a Magpul Zhukov forend on his Galil Ace Gen 1 5.56, so I tried it myself.
It took me about an hour and a half but I made it work! It's very straight forward and is a night and day difference in the way the Ace feels in the hand.
One of my friends said it's like an old couch, it's ugly but it's always comfortable.

Link above to the Files thread, Xeno did a better job making a guide than I could have so you can read it yourself if you're interested in doing this. I was able to make it work with a tape measure, Dremel and a duct drilling bit on a cordless DeWalt drill.
Below are my results. I'm going to rit dye it black to match the rest of the gun but I really can't speak highly enough for how much this improves the feel of this rifle.
It solves the problem of the short handguard, no good forward mounts for a sling and soaks up heat well too!

That is pretty cool.

You should look at swapping that stock too..the originals are beastly imo.

I don't know if this would work with the Gen 2, but if so you would sacrifice rail space in front of the dust cover with the trade off being the overall weight would be significantly less. The gen2 rail is chonky.
yeah, i know that gen2 rail is beefy and in my opinion really looks out of place on a Galil! The magpul forend is technically heavier than the stock one but it does not feel like it!

I had one laying around and tried it on the rifle and wasnt too fond of it actually, added a bit too much weight and took away the ability to adjust the length of pull so I decided against it. They are bomb proof though for sure.
