I'm betting a beloved but relatively minor character or two dies within the first two episodes.

Podrick, Brienne of Tarth, Bronn.....

You KNOW someone is going to die tonight....

That's a given.

I'm really surprised no one died.

I thought the ice dragon was in that hole and was gonna light the wildlings up.....

I told my wife I am going to take a different approach. We know people die on GoT so I'm bypassing rooting for main character and I'm rooting for some of the secondary characters to make it. Sam,/Gilly/little Sam, Sir Davos and maybe Arya and Gendry. Wife wants Jamie to make it.

I think Jamie is next to die...after him seeing the 3 eye Raven.....just saying...

So I was thinking. If the Mountain is already dead, can he be turned into a white walker by the Night King?

I don't think so. The books are a bit more detailed on this though still nothing confirmed... yet. In the books, Gregor's head is sent to the Martell's to prove he is dead since he confessed to everything during the trial by combat. Oberyn also had some sort of blood thickening poison on his spear so Gregor would die a slow death, which the grand maester misdiagnosed in the show but Qyburn understood.

Now for the fan theories that require some background info reminders.

Bran had a weird vision with a giant that had a stone head.
Arya asks Thoros (fire disciple) if a man can be brought back without a head.
Qyburn traveled with Jamie during his Bolton imprisonment. Jamie had that weird dream and asks Qyburn about ghosts. Qyburn tells him a bit about soul fragmentation.
Qyburn had studied under Marwyn, who had been to a Far East city of bloodless men called thralls.
Qyburn had been kicked out of the maester school for experimenting on living people and trying to learn about necromancy.
Magic returned with the birth of Daeny's dragons. A lot was said how magic died with the last dragon. The pyromancers working for Tyrion prior to the siege at king's landing commented how wildfire had recently become much easier to make after we saw the baby dragons born.

So the fan theory is that Gregor is one of the bloodless men that Qyburn knew existed but was finally able to successfully create now that magic has returned. Qyburn had required a lot of female prisoners during his FrankenGregor experiment, and fans believe he pieced together their soul fragments. When Cersei asks if one of the girls is alive (I think that nun who tortured Cersei), Qyburn said yes and no. I'm guessing the show isn't going to do a full stone head, but Gregor is all blue under that helmet so maybe parts of him will be stone.

A strong fan theory is Sandor will kill his brother Gregor (how could this not happen with all the build up towards it all these years), so I'm guessing we will find out then. Like Gregor's head will get cut off but he will still fight and then maybe killed by fire sword now that Sandor is hanging with the fire disciples?

tl;dr I don't think Gregor is dead like Jon Snow isn't dead.

I have been trying to catch up before watching episode 1 of season 8, but season 7 is painful to watch. The dialogue and plot just feel sort of half-assed and forced at times. Did they change writers/producers/director for season 7 or something like that?

I read the first 4 books years ago, then re-read them when the 5th finally came out. If that old bastard dies before finishing the series, I'll dig his ass up & kill him again.

I've only seen a couple episodes from season 4 & liked it enough that I'm waiting for the series to end, so I can just buy it on DVD & binge watch it.

I think season 7 is when the show blew past the books so that might've had something to do with it. I still loved it though
I'm trying, but I think I came to expect too much from the show to enjoy season 7. Some of the stuff was so irritating I had to either fast forward the entire scene or go do something else for a few minutes, lol.
The meeting between Cersei and Danni was way to cringey and drawn out. Not to mention the whole premise behind it. As was the odd expedition to get a dead guy. And the white walkers get a dragon scene. I mean I know they had to get one (they really didn't but whatever), but that was really lame way of doing it. If he could throw a spear like that, he could have picked off all the guys on the island and been done with it. And that is just the last episode I watched. oh well.
EDIT: Thought I should add that I did like the twist with Little Finger and the Greyjoy uncle "running away".
Not looking good for S8E1 and I still have to get through the last episode and a half of season 7! :p

I read them all a while back too and really enjoyed them. Liked what HBO did for the most part also.
He probably will never finish it. I wonder what his deal is with HBO. Can he do whatever he wants, even if it completely contradicts what the network did?

I think the network was given Martin's 100 pg notes on each future book and asked him a lot of questions, but they've been given freedom to change as needed for TV. For example, no stream of consciousness on tv and many characters and stories from books were combined for tv.

SPOILER*************************************
Getting a walker was the only way to convince the Lannisters (ended up Jamie). I don't want to spoil anything with the dragon. Let me know when you finish season 7 and I can tell you the deal. Small details throughout the series are hard to remember and make it easy to downplay the significance of monumental later events.

Sounds like a lot of it is still from Martin then, which is good. But season 7 did have a noticeably different (inferior) feel.
Finished season 7, that was the last episode. Like I said, I liked the twists with little finger and the Greyjoy uncle. Not so much the Jon Snow/Danni one though. I'll be curious to hear if any of the dragons end up surviving all this. I would bet not though, they are too powerful to have around.

I just watched these again because HBO did a free week preview for the GoT final season promotion. So I have S8E1 still to watch, but the rest I'll have to catch on another free trial or just read about it. ;)

There will be no taking of Westeros soon. Most are dead. Stinking dark setting kept me from seeing who actually got killed.

That was one dark episode..as in can't really see what is going on. Lots of fans are already posting on the internet that it was too dark (visually).

It was definitely too dark but I think they did it to cut down on the gore. They also made it a point to show epic deaths even with side characters. I was sure Brienne and Samwell died but then they showed Samwell alive at the end. So no epic death scene means still alive.

But there will definitely be no more mont. No less mont either. lol.

Damn chicken little midget is going to live forever. Waiting for the hot sex episodes (minus the damn midget).

Who knew the Queen of Dragons liked a spiced mocha latte with an extra shot?

Would've preferred they let her die in combat. Her character arc was completed when she was knighted anyway.

Yup. She should have died in the Long Night.

I've only seen one scene from all of them. Walked by the tube yesterday while Chicken Lady was watching it. Saw that badass kid jump off a wall and gut stick the ugly ass dead guy and turned him/it into ice cubes. Impressive.
