I hope I can ask this. If not please delete. Considering selling a cmp Springfield Garand service grade. And a M1 carbine I built. Carbine has a SA inc receiver , herlo non chromed barrel, and usgi parts. Ted brown barreled and head spaced it. I have a work friend bring up he like to have a Garand. Like to get a M1 carbine for his daughter to shoot. He doesn’t even know I own any of the mentioned. I would be like to price it to where’s its a very good deal for him. I searched and saw prices all over the place. Thanks Wardawg
The CMP service grade Springfield is currently $750 plus a 3 month wait through CMP when (and it might be a while) they resume selling service grades. Assuming your Garand does not have any rare parts and is in average exterior condition and runs well, you could probably get $1000 - $1100 for it pretty quickly on the CMP forum. But if it has nice collectible parts, is mostly matching or is particularly attractive (matching metal finish, nice stock, etc.) then it can go up quickly from there. They seem to bring much higher prices on the CMP forum than they do locally, probably due to the larger and more diverse purchaser base there.
As for the carbine, that is hard to assess. I assume this is a "non-GI" receiver, aftermarket barrel, but otherwise all GI parts. GI carbines have gone nuts lately. A nice, non-import, all GI, mixmaster carbine will bring $1000 right now. Even "commercial" (Universal. etc.) carbines are bringing between $400-$700 depending on make, parts, etc. I agree with Ronn47 above. More specifically, I think you'd get a much more accurate retail appraisal for the carbine on the CMP forum.
All that being said, if you really want to hook your buddy up, then I'd suggest that $1500 for the pair would be a very fair "friend" price. You'd probably be selling them for roughly what you have in them. And you'd also be hooking him up because it will save him the months of wait time for a service grade Garand at CMP pricing. Also, I assume the aftermarket carbine will be a reliable shooter, which will be good for his daughter. But that is just my 2 cents worth, which is worth exactly that - 2 cents.
