He was probably one of the outstanding luminaries in Christian Thought in the latter half of the 20th century. Although he was not a full fledged "theonomist" he was enough of a disciple of Rushdoony that the ideas of a biblical foundation for the state came pretty much down from the Reformation thru Samuel Rutherford and Wilberforce to the New England Puritans thru Yale and was a HUGE influence on the so called "Christian Right." He worked on the staff of Ron Paul during his first jaint in congress and wasas thoughtful and incisive as he was divisive (some times). His son in law, Greg Bahnsen, was professor of apologetics and philosophy/theology at Reformed Seminary and had a large, if noisy, influence there.
I have subscribed to his newsletter for years and years. He was the vehicle for info that introduced me TO Ron Paul, and to the Austrian theory of economics (sound money being the basis). I became a gold bug reading his stuff.
He was a prodigious scholar, who read volumes... and volumes.... and volumes... and tried to digest it all and spit it all out in a comprehensible form. He wrote an economic commentary on the entire bible. He put all his stuff out on the internet for free.

In his later years he became less rigid in thought.... in fact, some of his stuff reminded me of an oldster who did not quite know all this computer thingey stuff and was filled with security warnings no one under age 40 needed to hear.

I am not "sad" that he has died, for death is the great door to victory for those in Christ, and Dr. North - if anything - clung to the active righteousness of Christ imputed to us.

I look forward to seeing him, both of us uncluttered by the sin for which Christ died.
