I recently cycled through my stored gasoline and will be refilling my containers soon. I have been using Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer and I have been happy with it. The gas that I had stored was 18 months old with Sta-bil. I haven't noticed any problems when I have run it in my car.

I know that there are two products on the market for preserving gas Sta-Bil and Pri-G. It has been 5 plus years since I have looked into gas stabilizer. Are there any new products out there? Have you had better results with one or the other?

I came to the conclusion that both were about the same. I used Sta-bil because it was cheap and I could find it locally. Has anything changed in the past in 5 years for gas preservatives?

I've been using Sta-bil and been happy with it.

I've gotten recommendations, which I can't confirm and maybe someone else can confirm or deny it, to try Sea Foam.

Another satisfied Sta-bil user here. I did switch to the green "marine" Sta-bil though. For no other reason than "they" say it stands up to harsher conditions. Is it true? No idea! I rotate my fuel every 6-9 months.

Sea Foam is a cleaner/fogger. Sta-Bil is still king of the hill and I can't say whether the Marine is any better than regular but I only use it in stationary fuel. The fuel in the boats runs through like water (ethanol free) so I don't worry about it too much until fall gets here......

ETHANOL FREE are the key words. The gas I store is ethanol free ... with Sta-Bil ... plus it’s what I run in all my small engines (lawn tractor, mower, etc) so like BB said it don’t sit around long until Winter.

Agreed. I even had a little 2 cycle gas for the trimmer from last year. It’s more sensitive to older gas but started right up with it.

NCFubar said it first.
i used to use Sta-bil, but now i just go ahead and buy Ethanol-free.
i rotate in the Spring and Fall, and no problems so far.
Sta-bil was good, too, but it's cheaper to go no-eth.

Stabil user here. Regular ethanol gas. No issues. Store about 30 gal for riding mower and genny. Usually using the last if ut at the 1 year mark. No issues.

I run lots of small engines, saws, genny, weed eater, lawn tractor, four wheeler etc etc.
I buy non ethanol fuel and use stabil.
I rarely have any carb or fuel related issues. Some years I put the weed eater up for the winter with fuel still in it and have no problem in the spring.
I'm a believer.

I have had good results with stabil 360 and non ethanol 93, but I do not store fuel longer than 12 months. It also treats ethanol, unlike the original red bottle.

Also look at Startron. Check reviews on amazon.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

I had never heard of Star Tron before. I'm leaning towards using that next tine.

Thanks again.

If Sta-bil is doing the trick, why consider changing. I've used it for years, decades, and never had a problem, always good to go.

I use premium ethanol gas with Sta-bil and haven't ever had issues. I'm not trying to start a caliber debate or anything :D but my local Stihl guy said they recommend the higher octane (premium) and the ethanol-free near me is not that. In my Stihl equipment I use their brand 2 cycle oil which has a stabilizer in it. I will pick up a can or two of the Stihl pre-mix (ethanol free) to use in my chainsaw since I don't run it as often as my trimmer and blower. I use the other in my lawn tractor, pressure washer and generator without issue. I try to rotate gas out every 6-9 months.

I did use Stabil, but stopped out of curiosity, or neglect, then I realized there was no noticable difference after 2 years. This is mostly non-ethanol 90 octane, but have tried storing ethanol fuel the same. To me the difference is negligible. Every two years the big tank is rotated and the fuel, being gasoline and diesel, seems good as fresh fuel. The octane rating does drop off over time so a high compression engine may not like it (gasoline), but a typical engine that normally runs on 87 will probably never encounter detonation. I would be hesitant to run that stuff on a high output chainsaw without an octane booster.

Storage methods may be the key here, away from drastic temperature swings, out of the sun, and a venting system that doesn't allow direct exposure to the atmosphere.
