Geek Out to Whitworth's Cannon Engineering

There is a guy in the North South Skirmish Association who competes in the artillery competition with a Whitworth cannon.
 
That was pretty interesting. Phenominal accuracy - both in machining as well as shooting.

On a side note, I actually have a machine in my shop that uses some Whitworth thread fasteners in it. When I needed some replacement bolts for it I had to machine them myself. The only other option was to source them from England, which was both costly and time consuming.

you can source some Whitworth thread fasteners in the US, but their availability is limited.

No, it’s someone from the 1st South Carolina I believe. This past weekend they had the Brian Haack memorial match in Michigan. He was one of the first to make a repro Whitworth. I knew him, he was a great guy.
