And they come up with new ones every day, it seems. This afternoon, I listed a third row seat for a Ford Excursion for cheap on my local Craigslist. Within ten minutes, I had three texts asking if it was available and if they could send me a verification code to make sure I wasn't a scammer. I told the first one I wasn't sure how I could scam someone if they drive to me, pay cash, and leave with a car seat. He insisted on the code. Radar goes up and with 90 seconds of DuckDuckGo, I learn this is a scam to use your phone number with Google Voice to legitimize their scams. Told the second and third guys to pound sand when they texted, even telling the third guy he was the third one to try it. Didn't hear back from either of them. I'd never heard of this scam before and had never had a problem allowing people to call or text through Craigslist, what few times I've used it. This is nuts. I edited my ad to make it email only. I will never, never, never use my phone number with Craigslist again.
