If you need to belong to a group, class or some kind of identity go gay, that group seems to welcome everyone, no judgment within the rainbow wrap and they need more 2ndA people I think....

I don't think school children should be armed on the playground.

That makes me a FUDD too.

We were armed when we were on the playground!!! Mostly knives, but once in awhile we would shoot squirrels off the swing sets with our pellet rifles. I guess we were RAMBOS instead of FUDDS. :D

I am for private ownership of artillery and warships just like when the Constitution was written and ratified.

So, are you referring to artillery and warships of the 1700's, when the Constitution was written, or now? :D

You are WAY overthinking this and taking it WAY too seriously. A FUDD is kinda like a redneck. Everyone has some redneck in them. But some people embrace it and take it to a professional level. It is the unsophisticated dedication to spreading ones own fuddishness. There is no "divide and conquer" going on, and anyone who (not saying you) is minimally offended by one of the above caricatures is self-inflicting victimhood. I personally have elements of at least 5 or 6 of the different profiles I lampooned above...that's how I identify them...cuz I is them.

I am of the opinion that if you can afford it, can afford to feed and house it, and are not going about harming / terrorizing others who have done you no harm, then you should be able to have anything your heart desires. Man-bearable Arms (from muskets up to 40watt range Plasma Rifles and EVERYTHING in between), check. Artillery (from black powder cannon to whatever might replace the 155mm), check. Warships (from USS Constitution to whatever will have the keel laid down next week), check. Aircraft (all shapes, sizes and performance characteristics), check. I might, maybe, possibly be able to consider some slight storage / registration restrictions on nukes over say 100 kT or so. If I have left something out and it goes BOOM!, consider it on the list! If it really should be just an accessory that is currently regulated for some reason, it should be available at the local grocers betwixt the light bulbs and the dog food if said establishment cares to engage in such commerce.

TL;DR -- A free man should be able to have any dang thing he wants, wallet depth ONLY withstanding!

Just thought to mention that the captains (or masters) and crews of privately owned vessels in the time period being mentioned here still required a 'commission' or 'letter of marque' issued by a government to carry out "legal" warfighting action: lacking such documentation (perhaps sometime shadily issued or sometimes shadily ignored) made one liable for summary execution (hanging) as a pirate.

Of course. I wasn’t endorsing murder and plunder on the high seas any more than I was endorsing murder and plunder with all the ARs we own.

I'm noticing that a lot of the new guys getting into guns are very much into the Rambo/Gecko45 side of things. I suspect its because virtually none of them have a family history of hunting or being an outdoorsman, but almost all of them have played military themed video games and watched action movies. It certainly colors their taste in firearms and gear.

I personally find a lot of them to be silly and over the top, but I support their right to be that way.

My taste in guns is weird, just like my preferences in everything else is weird. I like AR's, lever actions, and revolvers. I own a few poly semi-auto handguns, but they're for CCW and defense. I shoot wheelguns for pleasure. I don't own body armor, elbow pads, or a helmet, and I don't plan on buying any.

I think age and maturity has a lot to do with it. 20 years ago I was in to all things tacticool, now at 45 I’m more in to historical stuff.
But what ever gets people in to the shooting hobbies is a good thing right?

Good points, and I agree with you. The most important thing is that they're gun owners who support the 2A. Everything else just boils down to personal preferences.

An overall defining attribute of a FUDD is one that cannot conveive of anyone else having different needs, wants, or applications than they themselves have had. This is why you hear things like:
"No one needs a 30 round magazine"
    "Revolvers are so antiquated"
"The AR isnt good for Home Defense"
    "Silencers are too dangerous"
"Anything more than 6 rounds means you need more practice"
"No one needs a short barreled rifle"
    "You cant hunt with those!"
"No one needs more than a few firearms."
"I own guns, but no one needs to carry them."

They have a complete incapability to understand that it is just >they themselves< that dont "need a 30 round magazine" or "Cant hunt with it" or "needs to carry one". If it doesnt fit into their version of how life is, then it is wrong completely. I know...cuz I was once a fudd in some ways.

I remember as a kid walking around a Gun Show thinking "Who needs these M16s" "Glocks...who wants a plastic pistol..." "Holsters? Why would you want to carry a gun all day." and so forth. But, then I grew up and matured and realized that >MY< perspective on what I want/need applies to a very narrow population...me. Over time, I came to embrace ARs, my first real carry pistol was a Glock, and I carry pretty much everywhere I go.

In truth, the FUDD disease infects most all aspects of our lives...in cars we hear "Who needs to spend XX amount of dollars on a car!" or "Why do you need a car that can go 0-60 in 3 seconds" or "Why does that lady need an SUV and all she does is drive herself." It really all boils down to a horrible incapability to accept that other people have seperate lives and the world does not, in fact, revolve around you.

The second amendment is about going full semi auto...not hunting.

I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything like that...I read all of your post and it was good. I just found humor in what you said and it reminded me of that guy demonstrating how "full semi auto" was something that needed to be regulated.

I am glad people are increasingly arguing for the second amendment based on combat/self defense/fighting tyranny besides using hunting as the rationale...partially because of this guy.

If you guys are going to exclude all of those Fudds from the "gun club", it's going to be a pretty small club. I should think we'd want to be embracing everyone who ever thought about a gun instead of making fun of half of them. Once welcomed in, they may see things differently.
