Who else is getting excited for turkey season? I am going to try and pattern my new shotgun this week. Turkeys are probably my favorite animal to hunt. Lost the place I had been hunting so hopefully I can pick something up soon!

I am ready. Had one gobbling abut 2 weeks ago across the road from my house. High pitched, so probably a young bird, but he was lighting it up, double and triple gobbling. Had a good bird in the back field this last Saturday. Not giant, but a good 9-10 inch beard. Will not be able to listen in the mornings with the time change for a couple of weeks.

On the way home from church yesterday near Hamptonville I passed a field with around 20 milling around in it. Close enough to hit with a stick. Now, to find a place to go shoot one.

Been scouting around. I've only got game lands to hunt so it puts the pressure on. I saw a giant gobbler during deer season, so that'll definitely be one area I go back to.

Since we're talking turkey, does anybody put in for the limited draw hunts? I got picked for the last week for Sandhills game land and have no clue what to expect.

We are covered up in them which can make them harder to kill. They are allready flocked up in Warren County so I plan to spend a lot of time in a blind watching a decoy. I prefer hunting in VA where you can use a rifle.

I saw a couple dozen Thursday near Hwy 321 in Maiden. One giant Tom in full strut. Yummy.

I love calling turkeys.
With the yotes and all the hunters it seems harder every year to call a bird in from where he is wanting to go. They have learned that if they stay quiet, they live longer.
It’s gotten to be a lot like deer hunting, where you have to patern them and get between where they are and where they are going.
Ambushing turkeys is not as fun as calling turkeys.

Good luck to everyone and hope you are successful.
