Anybody wanna split the $1675 machine 3-4 ways? :D

When this story broke, I almost posted in the first thread that I am not that thrilled with the ruling. I still am not. In the Miller case, 2nd Amendment rights were infringed because the gun in question was ruled to not be “military” in nature, thus not protected by the 2nd Amendment. In this case, we are celebrating because the ruling was the gun parts in question are not military in nature, thus not subject to ITAR.

I see so many people and the gun industry arguing that ARs are sporting rifles and not military, in response to the media’s push that they are “military grade” and shouldn’t be in civilian hands. I can see this being used against us down the road.

So, while I am happy those files are freely available again, my happiness is somewhat tempered by the twist in the road that may lie ahead of us.

cubrock's twist in the road?
quote:
Twenty states announced Monday that they plan to ask a federal judge in Seattle to immediately issue a temporary restraining order against Defense Distributed,
a Texas-based group that has already begun making 3D-printer gun files available on its DEFCAD website after a recent legal settlement with the US State Department.

last line:
The United States Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 allows anyone to manufacture their own firearm without a license, but manufacturing such weaponry for sale or transfer does require a federal license.

WRONG...NJ requires a gunsmith license. CA requires registration of any and all guns however derived.

Really glad to see freedom ring . Technology marches on....

Maybe it should be a club/forum asset. ;)

Don't be so sure - the "pro-gun Republican" and the "pro-2A" NRA have begun negotiations to sell out...

The wrong decision here could screw up the mid-terms and his chances in 2020.

I don't even like plastic Glocks, no way in hell will I buy a 3D printed gun!

You do know you can 3D print metal these days, right?

And DefDist also distributes CAD files for milling machines, and sells milling machines that produce metal guns/parts?

I'm so tired of the various media outlets talking about this being a "workaround" on gun laws. GCA of '68 specifically states people can make their own firearms for their own personal use. This is no workaround. It complies with the letter, and spirit, of the law.

They'll write a law in such a way that it kills the 3-d printed guns and 80% lowers at the same time. HOORAY FOR FREEDOM

How can a fed judge from Washington state issue a restraining order that kills this release for all of the US?

That judge doesn't speak for me..

Either way, I still have my 3d files I downloaded back in 2013...

Yeah, that's the craziest thing; these files have been available for years but antis didn't realize it.

the ATF changed their rules a few years ago about "co-ops" for milling 80% lowers.
they require serials numbers, etc. for joint owned and joint used manufacturing.
i can see them extending this to CNC and 3D. only one owner, only one user.
