So, I spent a couple hours today while waiting for recall work on my CRV's airbag reading up on US military issue Glocks. Is there any difference between the 19M and the Gen 5 19 beyond the slide markings? Every post I found on it came from the time period before the Gen 5's release, so everyone was speculating.

I know the answer is out there, but danged if I could find it on my phone this afternoon. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I believe you are referring to the 19X, which is the Glock model submitted for the military Modular Handgun System. If that's the one you mean, then there are significant differences from the Gen5. The 19X is a Gen5 G19 slide on an unique Gen5 G17 frame which does not have the magazine removal cutout at the bottom of the front strap and comes with a lanyard loop grip plug. As stated above, the 19M is the one for government/law enforcement contracts and I believe they are the same as the Gen5 models.

Hard to say for sure since there were very few 19Ms that made it into the hands of people that tend to post stuff online. Externally they are the same. Internally I have no idea but I’d imagine so except for possibly some spring changes or something.

No, I'm talking about the 19M. USMC has some limited number of them. I don't have much interest in the 19X, aside from it having a lanyard stud. I'm a sucker for a lanyard stud on a service pistol. :) I appreciate your response, though.

The Marines piggyback on a FBI order for the G19M. Nomenclature in service is M007. Pistols are to be used by their CID agents. They all think they're James Bond now :) SOCOM issues a 3rd Gen G19 standard slides and MOS.

The width on the front sight is different. The M is more narrow at .125 vs .140. The rear sight is u notched versus square notched. Though I am sure larger contracts can essentially choose their own sights.

Speculation is that some of the internals on the M are coated differently. Aside from that, it's just the fancy M on the slide as far as I know.

I believe the same sights are available on the 19 Gen 5 aren't they? You have the standard model, night sight model, and then the one with the Ameriglo Agent sights which I believe are what the FBI got.

The rear sight is different than any of the commercial gen 5 models. Their rear sight is u-notched, whereas the gen 5 commercial ameriglo model does not have a u-notched rear sight. For such a decent sized contract, sights are subject to change depending on department, etc.. But from what I understand, this is how their's was shipped.

The commercial gen 5 model does offer an ameriglo option but again, the rear sight is different than the fbi contracts and the front sight on the M is a bit more narrow.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that. I thought they were the Agent sights on the Gen 5 but I guess they used something else instead.

Our dealer catalogs state ameriglo "bold" square notch. My trailer is already loaded otherwise I would check when I got home tonight. It's similar enough not to truly matter. But it's one of the oddities of LE contracts. Basically similar sights but square notch versus U notch.

But again, if a pd requested the m, they can dictate to some degree what sights they want.

Thanks, Jerek. Not sure I am going to get one just because the USMC got some, but I am chewing on it. I read that they actually issued them to a small number of deployed Marines recently, but I'm not sure if they were deployed CID guys or something else.

I guess it is possible down the line we might see FBI surplussed guns? Don't know their current policy on that. I'll settle for a 19M from the FBI as my USMC example if they ever surplus them.

On a tangentially related note, I can't believe I missed out on the USMC warranty return Colt M45A1s. Saw one on Gunbroker last night with a bid of $4600. I don't want one that badly. It is a rare day we get surplus US military handguns.

For what it's worth, you simply can't order a M series gun right now. Glock would have no problem selling you one but they can't. The FBI contract dictates that only departments, government agencies, etc.. can purchase them.

With that being said, I've already seen one sell that was from an agent that retired who purchased his gun before retiring. So yes... the surplus market will eventually tilt. But until then, there are not many options.

I think the main difference is that the M versions have an anti corrosion coating on the internals, specifically the trigger bar and connector. Everything else, sights being subjective, is exactly the same.

Who knows if the coated trigger parts will eventually be a available to convert gen 5s to Ms...in the grand scheme of the interwebz, chances are likely. But for now, finding any gen 5/M specific innards is unobtainium.

On the sight front, my gen 5 19s have Ameriglo GL-847s on them, U notch, .125 front width and .165 u notch width. I’m pretty sure these are basically straight off the Ms. I ordered them direct from Ameriglo for $105. I’m not sure if the .125 sets are still available though since Brownells started selling the U notch/.140 front sets.

I figured that. That is why I was considering buying a Gen 5 as a place holder. I bet that M series gun went high!

I am not sure if you saw it, but when they first hit the market, they offered them to gunbroker gold members for like $1500 a pop. I was sitting on my computer thinking about doing the gold thing so I could buy one. Hesitated and it was too late. Expensive mistake!

No, I missed them completely. Not sure where I had my head buried to have missed every one of them when they initially hit the market. I would have bought at least one of each of the issued and non-issued grades.

The FBI U notch sights are on sale at Brownells for $74 shipped right now. Coupon code M8X

Thanks. I’ve had them in the cart until I could find a good coupon code.

Great price. I think those are the ones with the .140 front, not the .125 though.

Yes should have stated "FBI" like sights but still a good deal.

No doubt, I don’t think there’s much of a difference either way. I’d be fine buying these if I hadn’t already set up my gen 5 19s with the “govt contract” sights direct from Ameriglo, these are a better price for sure.

I know this is old but. The 19m also has a 4.5 connector in it that is not readily available for public purchase.
  • FBI ‘M’ guns have the nDLC finish on some internals including the trigger bar, connector, and slide stop lever, Gen 5 guns do not. Also, ‘M’ guns that went to a select few agencies do not have the nDLC treated internals. It’s easy to spot the difference, as the nDLC finished internals are jet black. Not gray.
  • ‘M’ guns appear to have an extended and rounded mag catch as stock, vs. a normal mag catch for the Gen 5 guns
