I’m planning on going on a black bear hunt for the 2024 season and I was wondering what would you recommend me getting a Glock 20 or Glock 40

Rifle. And if it has to be a handgun get a real one in a hard hitting caliber that can push at least 250 g lead. Wheelguns in 44 mag, 45 Colt come to mind. "Glocks arfa gangstas an shootin sidewise."

Go check the ballistics of the hard cast 200gr 10mm loads out of a 4" vs 6" barrel. Then you can decide if the performance improvement is worth the extra cost/weight/size of the G40 to you.

This. Also the G40 would offer an increased sight radius which would be helpful. Of course, if you’re running a dot that wouldn’t matter.

I am a self admitted 10mm fan boy. I have or have owned just about all different flavors of semi auto 10mm guns. I currently own the 3 different glock sizes, a sig, and a m&p. If I had to pick just one it would be a G20 with a 6” after market barrel. With that said 95% of the time I carry a G40 with a red dot and a light for woods/hunting/hunting side arm.

Do you reload Or what do you plan to do about ammo?

I plan on buying 10mm ammo

My vote is for the G20, 200gr hard cast underwood ammo (if you don’t reload) in a chest rig…all day comfort. G40 is nice (had one and carried the 20 more often) and now the gen 5 G20 is red dot ready if that’s your preference.

Me personally I would carry (because I have a choice) my Ruger 7 1/2 in 480 and my Alaskan in 480 as back up….

I have two 10mm . I have a Glock g40 gen 4 mos and a S&W 4inch.

I hunt with the Glock but haven't had any luck on getting one in close enough. I use the S&W when hiking in the woods ,and made a deer tracking bag with it as my backup. Both have pros and cons. I have small hands and the S&W fits my hands better. Neither one has given me any problems. Look on YouTube there is plenty of hunting video's with 10mm.

Check out the S&W M&P 2.0 performance center 10mm.
The factory porting does it's job in shooting it.
I'm a 10 fan boy as well and currently own 3 and at one time or another have owned about all the current 10mm's.
