I took my 16yo son to the range today. We mostly shot some Glocks including my G4 19, G3 19 and a G3 34. My son had FTF in every gun using different mags and different ammo. Every time it happened left a round stuck on the feedramp with the slide not in battery. Is this from limp wristing? It probably happened 10 times in total. I never had an issue and never have with any of these guns. He also shot my Ed Brown 1911 and didn’t have any issues. He has shot these guns before and has not had issues.

I had him try a couple different two handed grips with no luck. He did shoot 2 mags with 5 rounds each one handed with no issues. We shot the 19’s and then moved to the 34 as he has large hands and I thought it would solve it for him but he had 2 more FTF with the 34. Any ideas?

It must be a trick question, Glocks dont FTF.

In all seriousness though, likely ergonomic thing like limp wristing. This happened to me with my desert eagle (grips are massive + high recoil) until I really concentrated on my grip. Took a few mags, but resolved over time.

My wife could make them do that with factory springs. Lighter recoil springs and/or better technique from her and problem gone.

Also check that he's not pressing his thumb into the slide two handed, with enough pressure that can do it.

Good idea on checking his thumb. His fingers are freakishly long compared to mine. I worked with him a bunch on his grip but he kept having FTF’s. I moved him up to the G34 thinking a larger frame would help but he had a FTF his second round. It’s weird as he didn’t have a single one the last time we were at the range together which was 2-3 months ago. I have never had a single FTF with a Glock in the thousands of rounds I have shot. Had one stove pipe years ago in my old 2nd gen G19 with the original mag.

The only times my G19 has ever had an issue of any kind since I bought in in April(?):
- holding the gun in a "speed rock" grip near my side with the gun at an odd angle
-shooting .380 rounds in it...it hated those!

Other than that, it's been a rock star!

Even if I walk mine down I can't make it stop as in your photo. Are your guns stock or did you swap stuff out?

Also those look like reloads. What oal are you using? Maybe a long oal would contribute?

At first it does sound like a limp wristing issue.
I've intentionally tried to get my Glocks to fail from poor grip, especially my G23/favorite edc.
Wimpy, limpy, sideways, upside down, crap ammo..
They always fire.

It does kinda sound like he's got his meat paws all up on something.

Target ammo? My guess would be that a mix of under powered ammo and limp wristing or dragging a finger on the slide. If using target / under powered ammo am the slide is already going slower so limp wrist or dragging a finger on the slide can and will cause malfunction

under powered ammo
Remember that Perfecta stuff WM carried for awhile?
Terrible! I shot some through a G41 and it was like snowflakes, no two rounds were alike.
One weak round kind of just fizzled. I thought it squibbed but it did come out. The gun cycled but didn't pick up the next round.

3 different guns and using different mags and ammo, with only one person experiencing the issue? This is and easy case to solve......limp wristing
That is my thought. We were only shooting factory loads. Blazer brass and the red bullet is federal syntech. After every FTF, I or my Son dropped the mag, cleared it, reloaded and finished the mag without issues. We shot around 200 rounds total with him shooting more than half. I only loaded 5 rounds in each mag so he would go through the process of changing mags regularly. He seemed a little nervous while we were shooting, probably because we were indoors and the place was packed. Also a guy beside us shooting a pistol AR which sucked.

@BatteryOaksBilly , we did shoot several cylinders full from my 3” 686 without incident.

Thats a poly coated hand load. Ill bet a dollar its about 1.16" and another dollar that this problem disappears at 1.12"
It is actually Federal Syntech. He actually had more FTF’s with the blazer brass but had plenty with both.

I notice a PMAG in the first pic. Were all the malfunctions with PMAGs, or were you using factory Grock mags, too?

I had 2 pmags and two factory mags for the 19 and it happened in both. Only glock mags for the 34.

Wait, what? Surely this is your attempt at humor.

Thanks for trying to give me the benefit of the doubt.....but, no.....I did put .380 rounds in my G19 magazine, which caused the gun to not go!

(And I'm not even a blonde!! LOL.)

Oh don't think you're just gonna slip this in there and be done with it. Do Tell!
Not a lot to tell, really. Mixed up something, obviously, and didn't catch it, fired the gun, got lots of problems....lol.

Thought I'd broken a Glock!! LOL. If anyone can, it's probably going to be moi, right?

Well in light of the fact that I blew up an AR by doing almost the same thing yesterday.........I had to find someone to make me feel a little better ;)

Happy I could help out in any small way! LOL.

PS And now we know that a 1911 in 9mm will have no problems with shooting .380, while the "perfection" of the Glock 19 can't handle it!
