Not sure where to post this as I’m new to this website and firearms in general ,but my carry gun (Glock 43 ) had some slight surface rust ,no big deal wiped it off with some denim and ballistol ,but recently I’ve noticed some pitting on the slide ,and was wondering the best way to remove this /cover this and stop it from getting worse ,it’s not that big of a deal but it’s gotten worse over the past few days ,was wondering if it’s better just to ship it back to Glock and get it refinished or get it cerakoted (not 100% sure what it is if I’m being honest but a buddy said I should do that)
Any advice would be much appreciated as I’m clueless about what to do

There was a thread about this recently. It seems some people contacted Glock and they issued new pistols. Others, like myself, just had the gun cerakoted. So just do what seems right to you. Probably at least worth a call to Glock.

As for removing the rust, I’m not a pro but fine steel wool and oil have worked for me.

How bad is the rust? I'm just curious.

When I’ve had a pistol serviced, it came back to my house.

When I’ve had a pistol replaced, it went through an FFL.
See I’m not quite sure how I’d do that then if it got replaced ,I’m only 19 and can’t legally buy from an ffl yet only private sale

Pics are helpful in this situation👍

If you are unfortunate enough to be like me. You just have to religiously wipe any cc down daily.

I apparently have caustic skin oils. If I touch metal of any sort it rusts. I have to oil my daily carry every evening. I even have made rust come up on parkerizing and nitriding...

If I fondle a blued gun at a lgs I tell them to wipe it down asap. It really sucks but is my reality.

if you can show the level of corrosion, it will truly help with how we can help you fix it👍

In your situation, I would just contact @Magdump and see if he is still doing cerakote. Send him the slide and you’re done.

The other way sounds like a pain in the ass.

Great I’ll take some pics when I get off work ,it’s very minimal I’m probably making a bigger deal than what it is ,it’s not so visible right now after I wiped it down but I’m just concerned about it spreading ,never had a Glock rust on me like this

By the time it's a real problem, you'll be 21.

An', pardon me, but somebody has to say it... jus' ignore what some people say about Grocks, on account o' yer to young to know better. 🤣

I was told at one point that the new chemical used on the slides is more prone to rust. Not sure if it's 100% true or not. But I do know the US factory uses a different chemical. We have had tons of them come in looking slightly blue/grey.
