Got invited to go on a hog hunt in Waelder Texas. Between Houston and San Antonio. At any rate, I have to bring my own rifle. I don't have a 30-06 or a 30-30, I have a .223 or a 7.62x39, both AR platform.
Which gun?
Which gun?
I have plenty of ammo for both.whichever one you have or can get ammo for the easiest.
I use a Federal 62gr soft point.I would say be sure you have the right ammo, not just ammo. I would never hunt with FMJ ammo, and all my current 223 is FMJ.
Just my $0.02

Thatās the one
I was thinking more of the ATC subsonic 112gr. Iāve had good success with it
The most fun and the best way to get your adrenaline running is to wait until the dogs pen them down and kill the hogs with a fixed blade. I donāt know how they hunt in Texas but if thatās an option that would be my first pick.
The guide (a true Florida Cracker) on one of my first Florida boar hunts in the cane fields around Lake Okeechobee carried a Hoyt compound bow and a .44mag tucked Mexican Carry in his waistband. I asked him why the .44mag and he said if he missed heād shove the muzzle under the boarās head while he was pinned on the ground. First boar that broke out I was back on the cane buggy and he stood his ground dropping that boatrwith a broadhead up the snout ... never breaking a sweat.I would think the 765x39 would do the job with no problem. Side thought, if you have a 5 or 6" 44 Mag, take it and you might have more fun with that then the rifle.
