My son had his 6 month follow up with his oncologist today.
The good news is she cleared him to start back on humira for treating crohns. He's been in pain most of the time for last couple months. Flare up plus a bonus helping of IBS.
Humira was the first drug to work for him when he started his crohns journey at 17.
However, it is believed that Humira caused the cancer.
The not so good news is why she cleared him for Humira again.
Without it, the pain from active crohns and IBS will wear down his immune system, leading to a recurrence of cancer with a few years. Also risk of surgery or rupture.
Humira will get the crohns into remission again, but could also cause a recurrence within a few years. But he won't be in pain or need surgery for crohns.
He's eating much better, and living a more healthy life style, working hard at the gym, all better than when the cancer started in him before. So his odds are far better now.
He's been through a lot in the last decade.
He set many firsts during his cancer battle. Didn't lose his, gained muscle. (Gained more after treatment was done.)
And he lit up his midway PET scan with "intense metabolic activity" just with muscle growth.
Hoping he defies the odds again.

Prayers up!
I've had IBS-D for over 40 years, can't even imagine going through that, Crohns, and cancer at the same time!

I pray that during this challenging and difficult time of infirmity and uncertainty that you (all) will "hold every thought captive...", rejoice in His Grace and Mercy, and be washed with Peace of the Lord that surpasses all understanding!
