I'm a lefty that shoots right handed bolts, from the left shoulder. Anybody else shoot backwards?

We can't be friends...

Another southpaw shooter here. All my bolt guns are right-bolt.

When shooting from the bench, I find it pretty easy to operate a right-bolt gun. I can keep a good cheek weld on the stock and use the right hand to operate the action and load.

Now shooting a right-bolt gun while slung in is another matter. It took a good bit of practice to get that perfected so I could shoot my 1903 Springfield in CMP as-issued matches.

Same here. I'm right handed, but left-eye dominant, so I shoot rifles and shotguns left handed. From a bench, shooting a right-handed rifle is easier, I think. Standing I have to get creative with the bolt.

I mostly shoot AR's and lever actions though. I've come to find out that the standard AR controls are very lefty-friendly. Maybe even more so than they are for right handed people.

I'm right handed for most stuff I shoot a rifle left handed because I had to teach myself to shoot when I was a young'un and evidently I'm left eye dominant, I mostly shoot a pistol right handed and throw a knife right handed when I could pull a bow it was right handed.

I scratch my nads with either hand that isn't holding a beer.

I'm right handed and left-eye dominant. Worse, I have an astigmatism in my right eye, so it's not worth retraining my eyes.

I shoot pistols right handed, moving the gun to the left to be in front of my left eye, and shoot with right eye closed in order to focus on the front sight.

I shoot long-guns left handed because I need my left eye for the scope (or sights). The big issue is manipulating the controls and dealing with ejecting shells.
  • Shooting AR15s left handed is easy, and I've set mine up with ambi controls. My DD ejects empties at about 90 degrees, but I've shot others that send the hot brass right at my face.
  • Bolt guns I can I can control with either hand on the bench, but haven't tried hand-holding. I have a left-hand Remington 700 bolt gun for hunting.
  • For shotguns, it depends on where the safety is. Mossbergs with safety on top I can run with either hand. Remington 870 pump, Benelli M2 have a cross-pin near the trigger. I'll probably switch my M2 safety to make it left-hand-friendly. Like my AR, the M2 sends the empty shell away from my face.

About 2years ago, I started shooting both pistols and rifles with either/both hands.... quite often I do very well shooting lefty, thinking my left eye is better.....

I am a right handed person as far as writing and most other things. Have shot left handed since I got my first bb gun at 6yr old. On the opposite end of the spectrum, my old man was a true left handed person who shot guns right handed. We made quite a pair at the range.
