Years ago, DuckDuckGo was far inferior to Google. So much so that even though I wanted to like it and use it and get out of the Gulag, I just couldn't do it.

DDG has improved a lot over the years and is now a worthy default search engine. That it isn't trying to indoctrinate you into the liberal hivemind via manipulated search results is a bonus.

DDG has been my default search engine for years, just don't use it on Chrome and think your every click isn't being watched, stored and sold.

how come?

Not familiar with DuckDuckGo, first Ive heard of it, not watched the video yet, going to in a few

DDG while good for 98% of everything out there. I like how google does it when you search for say Mr. Tire and Auto It shows the location on the map, address, telephone, hours they are open and closed, etc.

DDG not so much.

The biggest reason I use DDG is the searching for stuff is on par with google, and they do a great job and keeping the tracking from web sites down.

Security is good, and DDG is key on protecting your privacy. It gives me the warm and fuzzies using DDG, if they stand behind their claims is a different story. But I haven't been shown they dont.

Its a good search engine. You should try it. They have come a long way and worth the little bit of learning curve (basically knowing it isn't google and things are a bit and feel "different")

Between mozilla and DDG, I feel a bit better about online privacy and not being overly tracked.

I use DDG exclusively for searching.

Tried a lot of map apps but google maps still reigns supreme. Nothing switches to alternate routes faster when there are accidents. Kind of the point since I usually know where I'm going. As far as searching locations of companies, I go directly to the map app for that.

Still haven't found a worthy email challenger to google either.

I have been using a duckduckgo browser app from the Play Store for ~2 months. So far I like it and have not noticed any difference in performance versus Chrome or Firefox. Things just look different.
Im still learning its nuances, but it does have one really cool feature. It gives any site you visit a privacy rating in the top left.
Our site gets a B+

Click on that B+ and it tells you why

Click on the 5 trackers blocked and it tells who they are

For general user like me, most of this is just coolness and means next to nothing to me, except that it shows which sites you go to that are aggressively targeting your info.

For example check out The Chive

When I first opened it, it jumped to about twenty five right away. I left it open long enough to write this post and it's moved to 77. All in less time than the average visitor would spend on the page.

This is a very useful observation, thanks!

EDIT: It does this on my phone, but not on my laptop.

I don't Facebook, so I occasionally save a meme from the pic threads and text it to a buddy.
Yesterday I could do this, today I cannot. I can't even save pics that I uploaded. I tried one from a bst ad I created yesterday and nada. They save as "index.php" in my folder and cant be opened.
It is only on this site. I can run a search and save pics, I can go to gunbroker and save pics, no problem.
I have nuked my browser data, logged out of the site and back in, uninstalled and reinstalled my browser to no avail.
I switched back to Chrome to test, and I can save pics, no problem. But that still doesn't help with why I could with duckduckgo for the last couple of months and now suddenly not.
Any ideas?

I don't have a "fix" for you, just wanted to chime in with some encouragement. I use DDG / Firefox almost exclusively, and I do the same thing with memes. Never had a problem.

I used to save image (sometimes renamed it) then email them to me, where I could capture them on my phone & send away. Then Gmail became even more of a PITA, and my android doesn't seem to allow picture re-sizing anymore, so it's now easier to save images to desktop, then, when I'm ready, plug the phone in & move pics from phone to computer & computer to phone.

You say Luddite, I say Old School. But it works for me!
