Right now my only 22LR handgun is an SR22. Thinking about a Mark IV. Anyone have an opinion. Could use the funds for multiple other accessories or projects, but the SS Hunter has always looked good to me. What say the rabble?

Good question. I bought the Mk 2 in stainless 6 inch bull barrel a long time ago and I think It was the only pistol I truly missed after I sold it.. About 5 years ago I bought the same pistol, but the Mk 3. Once again I found the Ruger to be very accurate and reliable .
What I didn't like about the Mk3
The horrible mag release, where you had to pull the empty mag out by hand. I fixed that with a simple cheap mod .
Very difficult disassembly procedure for cleaning.
Looks like the Mk 4 addressed all those problems and actually improved this fine firearm and for this reason, If your interested ? Buy it..
Just don't ever sell it..

My Dad still has a MKII he loves. He also has a S&W Model 41 tweaked for Bullseye and a Model 17'that fills his revolver love spot. Not sure what he would give up last.

I have 4 and their the only .22 pistol that can hang with my High Standards on accuracy. Accuracy, affordability and ergonomics can't be beat....
He does have high standards and I wouldn't doubt him on it. Though I don't think he likes SS very much so take that into account.

Depends on what you want to do with it. In my experience the buckmarks are finished nicer out of the box BUT they seem to be much more picky about being spotless to make them run 100%. Best out of the box Rimfire gun for the money is the victory. They need very little to make them awesome.

That being said - I have 1 sw victory and 5 Ruger 22/45's in different configurations. I just prefer the rugers.

The Ruger's a solid choice. I don't know all the MkIII quirks, tho I'd imagine the MkIV has to be easier to take down. I can't really make an apples to apples comparison between the triggers between my Buckmark & my tricked out MkII, as the MkII's fulla VQ parts & has a "worked" trigger. IME, the Buckmark is more accurate, tho I shot the MkII better/faster at matches.

If you like to tinker, it's a toss-up, as there's a ton of aftermarket support for the Rugers, vs. Browning. That said, if you want a TacSol/PacLite barrel, the Browning barrel's ~$200, while the Ruger will set you back $300-ish & maybe a transfer fee, as the Ruger barrel/upper assembly is the S/N'd part & will have to go through a FFL.

Have to admit, it was many many years ago when I handled the Buckmark but I really liked the feel and fit.. never shot one tho. Its one to consider if your looking for good shooting 22 pistol..

I have 2 ruger 22/45s love them. They both are very accurate and very reliable. I highly recommend them. And once you take a mark 3 apart a few times it's not bad to put back together. Just make sure your jaw is in the right place;)
