Now that we have wild(er) pigs, our feeders need upgrading. Dad doesn't harvest animals anymore, but likes to have them around (deer and the pigs).

The old design worked fine for the last umpteen or more years, but the pigs (or maybe just one big boar) has figured out that if they knock the feeder over, they get all the corn at once. We had to remove them because not only were they being tipped over, but the legs on them were broke off. Well, broken off of one. The other two are ok.

How would you redesign the feeder to be able to handle the abuse? I say redesign, because these are home made and we'll most likely "home made" them again.

The old design:

The last ones I fixed that were being pushed over I just welded a plate on the bottom of the legs then drove rebar in the ground through the plates

What kind of soil were yours on? We're dealing with Anson County concrete here.

Use larger pipe with holes theu them angled to the inside.
Then use the rebar idea thru the holes.
Use a bigger hammer if needed.

I would think legs that were on more of an angle like these pictured with a plate at the ground to drive a piece of rebar through would solve your issue. Legs on this angle may not even need to be staked

Unless you are trying to target the hogs I would stop baiting that site for a year of two. The hogs will move on and be a nusiance elsewhere.

Instead of having legs on it you could also hang it from a tree. Use a hand crank winch to raise and lower as needed to fill or adjust the spread. Boat winches work great used like that.
