Got me a cute generator (2019 update)

Small, but those are tough little buggers...

I really want a pair of them...

One thing I really, really like about Honda generators is how quiet they are.
You ain't kidding. I was at a show where there were three food trucks lined up. One had a Honda generator that you could barely hear standing right next to it, and it was operating under load. The others were loud as heck from 20 yards. (like the Troybuilt I just sold)

I've got one just like it and they are great!!!!!!! Meets all of my needs.

What's the plan with the little guy? I like the idea of the versatility of these.

I bought the harbor freight version for about $400. Great little generator.

And while it isn't quite as quiet as the honda it's dang close for $600 less.

Main reason I bought it is because it's really quite.
If I lost power, all I'm planning on running is a fridge and other small items if need be.
Extremely portable. 50lbs
I usually have about 15 gallons of gas on hand.
Newbies that run out and by 5-6k watt generators probably don't know how much gas they use,
I can make 15 gallons last a loooooog time.
Perfect for camping.
Did I mention how quite it is.
Resale is great should I want to sell it.
Plus it's cute

Always wanted one of those, but too rich for my blood.
Glad that Chad offered some personal experience with the HF variety, something to consider for the future

I bought one of these a couple of years ago. Light, easy on gas, quite, and easy to start. NOT priced like a Honda, either.

Bad thing is I remember Chad saying great things about the Harbor Freight generator. Maybe I should have researched. Didn't know anyone else made these little ones.

Lol, spelling obouisly isn't my strong point. You knew what I meant though

Obviously.

LOL

And yes, we knew what you meant, even tho I teased you. Quite vs quiet is something a spellchecker won't catch anyway.

Question. What size would you need in watts to run a well pump? Thanks

Well pumps take about 1,000 watts average with little to no surge at start.

And just for trivia sake ... sump pumps (for basement type stuff) take about the same but the surge at startup is over 2,000 watts

Do not kn0w if anyone answered yet. But it is a 2000 watt generator. So it depends on how big you well pump is. You would need to know what wattage your water pump is and what the start up draw is for your pump

All generators regardless of appearance are not created equal. These little Honda's are the Mercedes of their class.
Generators by their very nature, are terrible in regards to clean power. They spike, they drop. For things like refrigerators and blow dryers that's not much of an issue.
But stuff like computers and other sensitive stuff, that's bad.
The EU2000 is an inverter type generator. It creates AC power, converts it to DC, and then back to AC. The result is nice clean power. Run your most high dollar computer no worries.
Yeah. They're a 1000 bucks. It's not a Kia and you ain't gonna buy one for that kinda money.
And if I see any of the OMG-it's-a-$1000-that's-ridiculous! guys in any of the scope threads talk about how you need a Zeiss because buy once cry once ya-know, I'm gonna feed your dog a whole box of slim jims. :D

These are top of the line. Best in their class.
You did good Mike, real good.

Can you still daisy chain them together?
Know the older ones you could.
Sure can.

We bought 2 of the Generac Inverter Generators that "look" just like that Honda for $700 each. They work okay but they are no user, use fuel way quicker than specs said, leak fuel out of the cap, etc. My little Honda is goes back to Aug of 2011 and Hurricane Irene because we knew might need clean power source for our electronics at the beach. We ran it almost nonstop for the first 3 days and burned just under 10 gallons of gas so I'd say we got more like 5 hours per gallon. It ran everything from a our freezer & frig at the same time with no problem (would hook them up every 2-3 hours to keep them cold) to radio equipment to a TV at night. After we finished with the insurance stuff a week later I brought it back home and changed the oil and set it back for the next need. I've hauled it all over to operate power tools, taken it tailgating, used it to power our well (we have a submersible pump in a 180' well) in the winter to the sump pump in the basement. The Generac works and I'll say I bet the Northern Tool brand does to but to equate it to guns ... Honda's fit and finish is better compared to the others I gave used. I have a bigger Generac we tie into the house thru a transfer switch but it is way louder and I get maybe 9-10 hours out of a 7.5 gallon tank and if I put its output on an O-scope it has the dirtiest wave form ... no computers or such are plugged in with that non inverter generator.

I just started up my Generac this afternoon. Started on the 2nd pull, I was shocked, ran it for 30 minutes and cut it off.
