My niece's husband is a Chief Master sergeant in the army. He has played with all manner of weapons except archery.
They came down from VA to visit yesterday. We spent a couple hours teaching him to shoot. Now he is hooked.
Hopefully there are some decent stores in his area with traditional archery gear.
This is the closest they have lived to family in a decade.

Awesome , nothing like flinging a sharp stick with another stick.
Wish I was backed up to a piece of woods or something. I got no safe place / direction to put up a target here.
Not that I'm a lousy shot, just wouldn't want a stray to poke a car or something. ... Maybe if I shot down, from the roof of the house...

Not to be a jerk but there is no "Chief Master Sergeant" in the US Army. Maybe his rank was misheard. You sure he's Army? They have a Rank of Master Sergeant or Chief Warrant Officer. What about Navy? They have a Chief Petty Officer. Now the Air Force DOES have a Chief Master Sergeant rank though.

I was thinking USAF tanks
He's a master Sergeant. Recently added First Sergeant to his title.

That sounds like an Army rank then. Master Sargent is the E-8 rank and 1st Sargent is the same E-8 but in a leadership role. Mostly the top enlisted in the company, works along side the company commander

Yeah, but you get to be called Top.
Not long after he started at his new post, before making Top, he was offered a civilian post currently filled by full bird that was retiring. Bit he wanted to stay in the Army. He already had his 20 in now. He'll retire before the next PCS that moves them.
Currently he is posted at a facility in Virginia that is more secure than the NSA building because it is newer.

In the shot I'm shooting a 45# Bear Grizzly.
Serg is shooting a 30# Sammick Polaris.
The Polaris is an excellent starter bow.

Sweeeeeeet. Sammick makes good bows for the price. Sammick sage is a great starter as well.

My bear is a grayling made bow from 1970

Love the Grizzly. Very light. Probably half the weight of any of my Takedowns. If I got good enough to hunt, that is the one I'd use.
Super quiet too.

I hunt with a long bow. It's a Jerry Hill. Jerry Hill is Howard Hills nephew. My Bear is a 50# and my Jerry Hill is a 60#. I've killed squirrels with the Jerry Hill.

Bow n00b here - are long bows like this ambi? I have a brother who wants to get into archery but he's a lefty.

@fishgutzy while answering the ambi question, tell me about that back drop. We have a long and narrow back yard and would like to let some arrows fly while.

I have no problem finding left handed bows.
My Grizzly is left handed. My daughter's Bear Montana long bow is available left handed.
A few manufacturers don't make any left handed bows. But most do even though we are only 10% of the market.

Take a look at the longbows offered at Lancaster Archery, they have left handed longbows many under $200, which is a good price for a beginner/intermediate ;longbow. And Lancaster Archery is highly respected and great to do business with.

I need to put this on my list. We have a little over 6 acres up in the mountians. Not enough for shooting guns, but plenty of space for archery. One of my nephews up North has caught the bow bug.
