Because having a dremel is totally the same as being a gunsmith ;)

One Glock, one bottle of stripper glitter, err, Silicon Carbide

Plan is remove finger grooves, mild undercut, lay on the grit

With poll cause if you're gonna do something ridiculous you should always be able to blame someone else.

@Slappy McTrigger was thinking of doing some silicon carbide on a grip, so please keep us updated on process if you can.

You gonna do the double undercut? Should be a fun project!

I plan to. From what I read, tape, smear glue, sprinkle or dip in SC.

I don't really see much purpose to the double undercut. Making room for my middle finger may have made me actually like a Glock though. Non ferrous bit did run away a little though.

Double undercut is huge IMHO. Allows you to get ever so slightly higher. When talking about recoil management, a little goes a long way. @NKD discovered this with the diff in his orange and his tanfo. Very small difference between the two had a big impact from my experience. YMMV.

Indeed. A real consideration for major especially.

Foety kicks!

Ground, sanded, degreased, and masked. Packed the pinhole full of Paste Wax.
A non-ferous carbide bit makes quick work of the finger grooves, but is prone to snatching the work piece right out of your hand, works better at 22k rpm than 3k as well, but having run one over my thumbnail before I decided on the drill press was best so it was somewhat limited in utility. Still glad I didn't have to melt through with a sanding drum. Didn't go all the way through the front and rear texture as I don't really want a smaller grip. Decided against the double undercut, the heel of my weak hand is already up by the slide and contacts it sometimes.
Possibly get this junk applied tonight.

And now the wait...

One thing I already know I would do different is a thinner epoxy than JB Weld, many swear by it, troweling it on smooth is difficult, granted the lid on my hardener tube was busted. Getting the tight spot and curves I resorted to a gloved finger, my polystyrene putty knife just couldn't flex right.

I pressed the grip into a pile of SiC, rolling it to get the curves created some ridges, I was unable to get it laid perfectly smooth, I think this is from being unable to get the JB just skimmed on and smooth to start with, I debated letting it set sanding and restarting but we'll see. Some people sprinkle the SiC but given the viscosity of my JB I figured adhesion would be poor that route.

Glitter won the poll but I still couldn't. Also I have apparently a massive amount of 60 grit, betting the gun took about a teaspoon, so if anyone wants some I can bring a small bag to any matches I attend for ya.

I watched a video of a guy who does this to his AR grips, looked pretty awesome.

Gave it an hour, pulled the tape, scraped crud out of mag release channels...
I think it'll be functional, not the greatest looking, phone cam doesn't reveal all

So I decided to actually shoot this gun again, was going to switch divisions decided to wait, live fired over the weekend and been dry firing since.

Notes, undercut is good. Carbide is generally good, I think I have fairly tough hands being a heavy equipment mechanic, welder, and generally hands on person, 60 grit is probably as course as I would want to go, it is tenacious compared to Talons, BSPS, or 3M grip tape, it does not slip, if you try to make it slip it hurts you. It has shed some, but seems to be slowing, could be related to old JBWeld, but doesn't seem excessive.

Biggest draw back so far, table starts. Tried some in DF. Used to grab the grip and finger tips would slide beneath it allowing a full grip, that does not happen now, finger tips stop and attempting to close grip makes nail beds try to separate from nails, with recoil and whatnot it'll probably settle out, but the first few shots will not be optimal. No free lunch I spose.
