Grizzly attack fatal

Hell of a way to go….:/

Side note: I guess Grizzly sounds better than “Brown Bear”. (Same thing, different names depending on if it’s above or below the artic circle)

Riding Yosemite one year, gassing at the general store. car pulls up and lady passenger hops out of the car way too fast. looking at the car, deep claw punctures on roof, walking around car the passenger door is GONE! Dash is barely there, steering wheel bent. Whole glove box gone, she left sugar donuts and beef jerky in the car overnite. Her soon to be ex didn't buy all the insurance, they were screwed. As she left to go into the general store he shouted " be sure to get more donuts you bitch!"

I would hate to be unarmed in a tent!
Definitely not a good idea to go into that wilderness unarmed.
It's always kinda surprising to me though when people go into the animals habitat and are shocked that things like this happen.
Those who aren't properly prepared or follow needed protocols, and sometimes even those who are and do everything right will get killed in the wild.
Millions go into the ocean, some get bitten or killed by sharks..
Go into bear country, fix a meal and go to bed, you might get attacked... not the bear's fault, imo...
Human arrogance will get that bear killed, if they find it.

Years ago, before 9/11, my squad did a joint training op with another unit. We spent some time in the Bob Marshal Wilderness Area. When we were planning, the rangers (or whatever the title of the people over that area) said to definitely carry because of bears. Since this was in a civilian area, we could not go all 'military regs' for live fire, so we all took civilian weapons, all handguns, one lever action 30-30.

I've been to Montana and Alaska photographing Browns. I got off a floatplane on a beach, went to a US NPS bear orientation, then saw maybe two dozen bears.....one of the best times of my life. I always have my S&W 329 PD with me.
Some main rules: ZERO food on you, not even a piece of gum. DO NOT RUN, FOOD RUNS. Fight a Black; play dead, cover neck with Brown. All gear has to be touching you at all times. If you put down a backpack, it has to be at your feet, can't walk away even a few steps. This is because if you're surprised by a bear and slowly walk off, you don't want to leave the pack as a "play reward". They will learn that backpacks are fun to tear up and maybe the next one they want to play with is on someone's back!

Seems like this one wasn't even in the "wilderness" they were in a town it seems near the post office. Not a place I would think of as a camp site exactly.

But yeah....

When I go camping I don't expect the native wildlife to move out before I get there. And if we have a disagreement over my position on the food chain I'm negotiating in .45 Colt or 10mm.
