Stopped by Publix to grab some lunch today and was told I could not enter without a mask.

It occured to me that it would be helpful for people to know which grocery stores require masks, so that if you are a sheeple you can frequent them and if you are a free-thinker that practices social distancing and good hygiene you can avoid them. :) If you post your experiences in this thread I'll keep the list below updated.

    Grocery Stores That Require Masks:
    • Publix (apparently some do and some don't)
    • Whole Foods
    • Sheets

Grocery Stores That Do Not Require Masks and Deserve Your Business:

    • Harris Teeter
    • Food Lion
    • Lowes Foods
    • Carlie C's IGA
    • Walmart
    • Aldi
    • Lidl
    • Ingles

    Of course, Publix!

I have not tried my local market yet but, would not be surprised that they turn me away even if I claim medical exemption. When that happens, they lose a customer forever.

Walk around with a bag of chips and tell them you are actively eating.

Harris-teeter informed comradecooper that they will not comply & will allow folks without masks to still buy food.

FL in yadkinville is posted as requiring a mask to enter but there were plenty of folks inside without. I went into the Lowes Foods in advance that was similarly posted, without a mask, and nobody said anything.

Went to Wally-world in Burgaw yesterday, big signs about the mask bs. I walked right in, the greeter said hello like any other time. A handful of us walking around like free men, gave each other nods of approval. Not a single comment or dirty look from the sheep, not that I was looking.

Setting aside any arguments about the efficacy of masks...

Those of us with a Libertarian bent are in a bit of a pickle with this. If a company/store/business posts a "You must wear a mask" notice, then are they infringing on MY rights to not wear a mask, or am I infringing on THEIR rights to control their property?

I firmly - vehemently - support private property rights. Therefore, if a business that I want to patronize requires a mask, I'll wear a mask. It's their right to require whatever they want as a condition of doing business. Just as it's my right to seek out another venue.

Liberty isn't all about "I do what I want"; it's balanced with "you do what you want, as well."

These "here's my bogus medical exemption because screw you" arguments don't truly respect Liberty, they only impose your will on others.

The ada says reasonable accommodations must be made for certain things. I keep a medication in my pocket 99% of the time for claustrophobia induced racing of my heart. Not really anxiety but pretty close and I refuse to wear a mask.

A store requiring a mask doesnt make them any more or less deserving of your business.

I for one do not understand how a property owner that is Inviting the public in to do business can then specify what rights they do and do not have. I mean 2nd Amendment. How did slinging open your doors to strangers not be interpreted as agreeing to abide by their constitutional rights? How did that happen? It isn't the same as inviting people into your home for no purpose of compensation. We really got that one wrong someplace.

You mention the 2nd Amendment - what does the BoR do? Like, who is it keeping us 'safe' from?
Government. It wasnt about private property and business, it was about gov overreach. So a private place asking that you not bring a gun has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment.

Mask. Gun. Shirt. Shoes. Dont like their policy then dont shop there. But dont think we've not been abiding private company's requests for decades.
Just yesterday I saw a woman asked to put her shoes on in a restaurant. Their rules, they get a say in what you wear.
These companies are following a government policy of asking that people wear a mask. Is it being enforced? Not really, read through all these threads, they arent enforcing this really. SImilar to the arrows in many aisles in stores - they'd like you to go down that way, if you dont they dont chuck you out.

Stopped into a dollar general and a gas station today.
staff in both had masks, customers in both were mixed. nobody questioned me.
I'm guessing that sooner or later, ALL companies are going to send statements to staff that they can suggest a mask but cannot require somebody to wear one.

    What a bunch of BS

HEB grocery store here has a sign with a "suggestion" to wear a mask. About 50/50 on people wearing masks.

LIDL didn't throw a fit yesterday when I said I wouldn't need a mask. Seems to me people are bucking back in pretty large numbers.

I havent seen a single business post a requirement or suggestion untill the government stated to do so. Very very few would play along on their own even knowing it will short the cash register

They can ask you to leave.
    You can leave or stay.
    They can say your trespassing.
You can pull your ADA card.
If y'all still disagree, you can discuss it further, if'n either of you wishes.
No one's rights are infringed in any event.
    What's the problem?

I haven't worn a mask yet and haven't had a problem. No mask guilting either. One business, a charity based establishment, stopped us and told us a mask is required, we turned around and walked out.
Saturday I was even near Glenwood South in a "restaurant".... bar.... No issues. I believe the place was called Cardinals. Decent hot dog, not a Percy Flowers dog but, decent, good "Bullet" on the rocks.

The flaw is, is that its not a free choice on the businesses behalf. They are forced to alienate the customer base thru threats of financial burdens which are already financially burden of not fault of their own, from the elected officials. Its one thing if they use the “right to refuse service to anyone” (cant do that anymore from fear of lawsuits). But they are not.

Just so. The problem is not between the customer and the business. The problem is between the business and the king.

Executive orders cannot be enforced by Law Enforcement, because they are not laws. They cannot enforce them against individuals or businesses. They enforce laws, not executive orders.

When the king, er, I mean, government officials (elected or not) enforce executive orders by yanking liquor licenses, privilege licenses, and such, that is extortion. They should be taken to court for that.

If the Officials want to try to make laws to do they things they want, then they should go ahead. By doing it all through executive orders, they are daring people to stop them. They think they can get away with it, so they go ahead with their tyranny.

Simply because the majority had let them get away with it. And sadly, the majority is starting to ask for tyranny

I walked into the Publix in Aiken, SC this afternoon to get food for a couple days on the road.
No mask and no one said a word other than "Hello, welcome to Publix."

Indeed. The R majority and the D majority. Two edges of the same blade. A left boot and a right boot stepping on the necks of Liberty.

    Correct. Just recommended.

i got this email earlier today:
Due to the increase in York County COVID-19 cases, York County Government and the York County Sheriff’s Office recommend residents wear a mask or some type of face covering when out in a public setting, around people outside of your household and especially when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Both entities, urge the public to follow the current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and (SCDHEC) to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes the recommendations to wear a mask in public settings and to practice appropriate social distancing.

“We all have to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said York County Chairman Michael Johnson. “When I am out in public, I wear a mask. I wear a mask because it protects others and it is the right thing to do. We have seen a substantial increase in COVID-19 cases and the medical community has asked that we wear masks and continue social distancing. We need to be good neighbors and follow this advice. If you feel sick, stay home and get tested. Otherwise, please wear a mask in public and help stop the spread of this virus.”

Since there is currently no vaccine for COVID-19, preventive measures are critical in slowing the spread of Coronavirus. The CDC reports that wearing a face covering reduces the transmission of the virus by acting as a barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people.

“Now, more than ever, I urge citizens to follow the recommended guidelines to help prevent the spread of this infectious disease,” said York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “As the numbers continue to increase, so does our vigilance to take preventive measures and our resolve to get rid of this virus.”

Not a grocery store, but Tractor Supply in Gastonia/ Bessemer City tonight, not one customer was wearing a mask. 3 employees seen, 2 were free breathers. Folks talking to each other in line with the general talk of being free breathers. No one was called out, shamed or asked to leave. It was glorious.

Do you recognize a difference between a business rep saying "the government says we should make you wear a mask" and a business rep saying "we have decided you must wear a mask, regardless of what the government says"?
