Gun & Ammo Tax Tacoma Wa.

The tax goes into effect on July 1, 2020 and is expected to raise $30,000 annually to fund violence prevention programs.

Changes in tax policy always create changes in taxpayer behavior. It will be interesting to see if they figured that into their projected tax receipts.

People will go elsewhere to buy and all they’ve done is force others out of business, thereby reducing their own tax base! Instead of raising money, they’ll see less! Simple math that the common core people don’t get!

I'm not familiar with Tacoma, but I imagine there are nearby communities outside of the city with businesses that sell ammo and guns. And they will be happy to take the tax money away from Tacoma. :D

This does set a precedent and I wouldn't be surprised if some leftist leaning state rep doesn't push for a state tax on guns and guns. There is already a 10% federal excise tax on ammunition and guns that was passed back in the 30's that was to be used exclusively for wildlife management at the state level. The liberals have been trying to get their hands on that pot for decades for their stupid social welfare programs. That money has made the United States the envy of the world when it comes to wildlife management and wildlife diversity. No where else on the planet can a private citizen hunt game like here in the good old USA. And the hunters paid for it all. In fact, they pushed the legislation through Congress!

Apparently, the city plans that all or part of the $30,000 they foolishly expect to collect will be used towards developing a buy back program. Will they buy back 60 AR’s at $500 per?

I am not sure if it’s still going on but last year Seattle (Philadelphia started one also) implemented a “Sweetened Beverage Tax” ... the tax revenue was less than half expected because guess what ...people shopped outside the city limits. The city lost the Beverage Tax and sales tax so it actually hit a little more ... plus the local businesses lost sales and were hurt. Guess these idiots can’t remember a year ago in their on state or think gun people are to stupid to just drive 15 minutes to Olympia or Renton to buy stuff.

Damn....a plan to bring in money AND get guns registered????? Denver has had this for some time now for Asssssault rifles.

Ah yes, the last line: "“We have to do something,” said one speaker.".

Of course. That magic something.

So why not make it $1000 per gun and $50 per bullet? Once it's pay-to-play for your basic rights, the price is irrelevant. Its gone from a right to a privilege.

I'd get a UPS box in a neighbouring state or city and have all shipments sent to that location or I'd go to another states gun show and stock up a few times a year.

I believe it has been over a year since I bought ammo. I re-load and glad I do. I realize NC is going more and more to the left and that this may be a thing here in the not to distant future. Especially with this re-districting crap. They want to move me from District 3 to District 1 (dem held). No Thanks

Saving up for a scar 17, as soon as I've got that I'm going to start reloading.

Ammoland reports the tax is estimated to bring in $300K. The goal is not the taxes but to force the legitimate gun stores out of business.
Perhaps over 10 years.
