We are really weak in having an area to discuss cleaning. The 2nd most common thing people do with their guns and we have nowhere to go.
I asked for a cleaning sub-forum 6 years ago and was told that it's the same as Gunsmithing, Assembly and Finishing.
😐
"Great day at the range guys! Now I'm going home and gunsmith, assemble, and finish my guns before I put them in the safe."

Let me put it this way. That hasn't worked for 6 years and it never will. We've talked cleaning...a lot, and great ideas...but never in a common bullpen. It's all scattered throughout the CFF warehouse after review by "Top Men".
The latest example-
The course might be the same, but gunsmithing and cleaning are two entirely different chapters on your final exam.

Probably a thousand years of cleaning experience and tricks here at CFF and nowhere to record it. Up to this point it has all been lost.
It doesn't need it's own world. A "Gun and Parts Cleaning" sub-section under Gunsmithing, Assembly and Finishing I think would fit well.
Of course this is easy for me to ask. I'm not the people who work for free that have to implement it. So to those, I appreciate you hearing me out.

Thank you. Be sure to tip your waitress.

From everything I've seen on here about cleaning firearms it seems there ain't but like 6 or 7 of us who do clean there firearms. 🤣 the rest seem to run them till they quit running then throw some more lube at it and get back to work. 😥

Train like you fight, fight like you train! 🤣

Some of these guys are like jewelers with their guns. I wish I could remember half of what they've said to do over the years.
Ballistol could probably have it's own 4 page thread.

Discussing in the back now. Hold tight @Friday

I'm a "cleaner" too. In the summertime in the screened in patio out back is the best.

I'm not so much surgical level obsessive about it, but I enjoy taking apart, cleaning and reassembling nice machinery. It's kind of a zen-like thing.

Not me, I go to the range, come home, and if not the same day, then the very next day I am cleaning away. Of course being retired does afford me the time to do this. But even before I retired, I would usually clean mine the same day.

Yes sir I'm a cleaner as well. I was taught by my ww2 veteran great grandpa that if you shoot the gun you clean the gun. Even the ones that don't rarely come out of the safe get pulled and a simple strip and clean every few monthes. And my most used shooters get a full tear down and deep clean atleast once a month depending on round count. I don't get into alot of the newer super lubes and such. I like my hoppes products just like I was taught with. I do really like barricade for all my blued finish stuff

Apparently it's extremely hazardous, based on the number of people having un-commanded discharges while "cleaning" their firearms. It should be left to professionals or those with gun cleaning certifications.
Just say no, to gun cleaning.

I’m a best of intentions kind of guy. Always plan to clean them when I get home but rarely do. I like stripping them down and giving them a once over even if just to stay familiar with how to take it apart. There have definitely been a time or two looking at a firearm and scratching my head remembering how to take it apart.

Here yall go. @Friday

Enjoy

A cleaning sub-forum isn't anything I've really thought about before, but now think it's a great idea, so thanks!

As we go through and find other threads which properly belong there (like the ultrasonic cleaner thread mentioned above), can we report them and ask that they be moved? That seems to have been done for the Travis Talks sub-forum, although that was probably a little easier as whichever mod did that could just search in the pistol forum by threads for John.

Extremely. It's like if someone 100 years ago hand machined a deadly puzzle for you to solve -- and not just solve but restore, burnish, tend, and keep. Late summer, college football just getting started, throw the game on, light a cigarette, and invest yourself in history and the gentle buzz of the evening critters.
