I didn’t see this posted elsewhere.

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A Nevada-based gun manufacturer filed for bankruptcy after Kansas City sued the company over weapons trafficking last month.
... The city sued Jimenez in January, alleging that the gun trafficking created a public nuisance in Kansas City, which has one of America's highest homicide rates.
...Everytown Law is a branch of the gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, which is backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg. It helped with both lawsuits against Jimenez.

Jiminez filled for Chapter 7 bankruptcy (that’s liquidation, not financial reorganization) after being sued by the city.

Anyone own a Jiminez firearm?

I couldn't tell you what they make, other than little semi-autos.

They might have been an easy target, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy anyway... jus' sayin'.

It reads like a complete mess. Local government official (fire captain) bought guns from Jiminez that were shipped directly to him (not an FFL) and through a couple of companies that were FFLs (and one that wasn't anymore) using a straw purchaser.

It doesn't sound like anyone involved is a nice person. It's still hard to tell since Bloomberg is funding the lawsuits.

This has happened many times already in the last 30 years. They will probably be up and running again with a new company in no time.

Yeah, Jennings/Raven/Bryco/Jimenez.

They'll pick a new name and crap out some more pot metal pistols.

Dont forget Davis - Same family and they made some nice drangers In 1999, Davis filed for bankruptcy and went out of business as a result of a large number of lawsuits being filed by cities and municipalities. This has been going on a very long time.

If I Remember Correctly, (IIRC) Davis lost a lawsuit where one of their guns flew up in someones hand and that person was awarded $40,000. They filed for bankruptcy and that started the company change.

Declaring bankruptcy, closing up shop, and selling assets to another family member or trusted friend is just part of their business plan. It's probably just a lot easier to try to follow "work instruction / lawsuits / municipality / file for bankruptcy" than it is to defend the fact that they were sending a lot of guns to one city official using some forged documents.

more info on the build-up here, including the statement “from its very first transaction with Samuels in November 2013 … knew, or consciously avoided knowing, that Samuels was purchasing the firearms for re-sale, something that only a licensee can do.” So if they sent a lot of guns to one guy via an FFL, what they did was 100% legal. It's not really their responsibility to know his intent, just that they follow their laws and send to an FFL.

They're trying to make a lot of hay out of this too... On two occasions, Jimenez Arms shipped guns directly to Samuels’ home, “knowing that he was not a licensed dealer and knowing that he was going to resell these guns,” ... and I've heard that sort of quote from a few places. But I would almost bet a paycheck on the fact that the guns were junk out of the box and it was warranty work. That would have been 100% legal too. Most carriers will require certain restrictions for gun warranty work, but the address labels for a claim only say your house and the repair shop. If you buy a gun, try it but don't like it, find it needs work, and get it fixed "before you sell it", that's perfectly fine.

I think the word "bombastic" fits here.
