.We may end up spending a few years in Germany for personal reasons. How would you suggest to go about storing your guns during that time? We would most likely rent out the house for the duration? I have about 8 rifles and 5 handguns.

Is there such a thing as commercial gun storage?

I figured that’s what you were asking about but I’ve never heard of one I’d trust.

Businesses can go under and anything in their possession often gets swept up one way or another.

No gun owning friends with some extra space? I’ve briefly thought about this in the event I work in Europe (I have zero desire) and I have 2 friends I wouldn’t even have to ask.

Friend of mine in OR ended up in the hospital with a massive brain tumor. His family took his collection of stuff to a gun shop and had them store it. He was paying some crazy amount, like $800/month for the 40 guns (mix of handguns/rifles) but it was the best that could be done at the time. He died shortly after, and the shop just bought out the collection from the family.

So I guess that's one anecdote that says... yes, commercial gun storage is a thing. Just not a very good thing.

Have a small safe or buy a small safe that can hold them and easily movable up stairs and you could store them at my place. Wouldn’t even charge you and am sure a few people on here would vouch on trustworthiness.

for anybody that doesn't have such a great gun shop near them, this may find a great gun shop near them...

My LGS ended up saying he'd do it for me for free. I was as surprised as you are now. Granted its only about 10 rifles and 5 handguns but still.
Be sure those guns are clearly and individually marked as yours and not for sale, to avert any employee or other mix up down the road.

I would also check the fine print and make sure you don't have to complete a 4473 to get your firearms back...

It is Granville Gunworks up in Creedmoor.
I think a large part of it is I bought a rifle from him that was mislabeled as something else by his distributor and he passed the mistake on to me. I came back and told him a few days later but I was nice about it since what I bought was on my bucket list anyway. I didn't throw a hissy fit or got all angry about it. I think he appreciated that.
