What are your favorite GWOT era war movies? Based on real life, pure fiction….either way.

For me, 12 Strong is the best.

Also, not war on terror, but the same era - my absolute favorite war movie about the 21st century is 13 Hours. WOW, what a great movie, and infuriating movie.

No movie has ever pissed me off as bad as this one did.

The French movie Special Forces
Kilo Two Bravo (full film, on YouTube, also entitled Kajaki: The True Story).
13 Hours
Lone Survivor

Honorable mention:
12 Strong (awesome book OK movie; entertaining enough)
American Sniper

Restrepo.
Body of Lies.
Brothers.
Traitor.
The Hurt Locker.
The Kingdom.
Zero Dark Thirty.
Jarhead.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

Shows:

Generation Kill.
Homeland.
The Looming Tower.

I loved Generation Kill. I knew/know a bunch of those Marines. The series was pretty accurate to the culture.
“I wasn’t born on some hippie-fa**ot commune. I’m a death-dealing killer. In my free time I do push-ups until my knuckles bleed. Then I sharpen my knife.” Best quote in the whole book.

That whole book could be highlighted and underlined for quotes. Garza, who said he had "retard strength," was actually wicked smart. Rudy Reyes, an absolute legend in the community but one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He made his life about helping others become better. Nathan Fick, the platoon commander, wrote a book (One Bullet Away) and went on the lecture circuit.

Now I need to read the book again. If I could find the series, I would watch it again.

Justwatch.com is handy for finding stuff you want to watch.
