H&R .45-70 Handi-rifle

Let @Michael458 get you goin' on some Elephant slayers......Since he started keeping me in MEAN ammo [40 years ago], I ain't seen nary ah EElEEFANT round my place. Nur a Grizz nur a Cape Booofalo. Rekon dey got da Word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put them all on the “Endangered Species List”…………..

Extractor I believe.

I have some Cowboy type loads put up for my Marlin 1895, but plan on using the more modern loads for this one.

Anyone got a recommendation for a good stout low power variable scope that'll take a .45-70 thumping and survive?
I have a handi-rifle in 45/70 and I found an old 4X 32 bushnell scope that was originally on a 20 ga shotgun. It works well and hasn’t been killed yet. I’ve ran over 100 rds thru the old girl so far.

350 or 400 Barnes spire points in the single shot .45-70s.

IMR 3722 for the 350s or H4895 / H322 for 400s.

Got a #1, never bought the bbl for my Encore but that would be nice.
Would grab a Handi if I found the right one.

I too love these great guns, but because they were inexpensive, most of mine are not how they were made.
243, (2) 30-30ai, 45-70, 30-40krag, 221 fireball, 260 rem, 460 s&w, 500 s&w, 450 marlin converted to smokeless mz

I was wondering how many you were forgetting lol. Where did you get the 450 Marlin converted to the smokeless muzzle loader? How does it shoot?

Wanting to turn the 500 into something else, just notbsurebwhat
Do what you wish, but those 500 S&W Handi Rifles are kinda rare, and bring premium prices. I got one from an old friend and it will stay as it is. I do hunt with it, and can’t imagine needing any more power for anything unless dinosaurs make a resurgence.
