Hand held GPS devices

Looking for suggestions on a handheld gps device. There are certain features I would like so if any one on here has a brand and model recommendation that would be great.
Things I’m looking at
Battery life
Ability to upload maps for use when no signal may be available
Ability to geo cache locations accurately
Memory
Ability to pre plan a route

I still have my Garmin, which I got for Christmas, 2008. But any more, I use my smartphone.

Battery life doesn't bother me, as I use a Mophie case, and anywhere I may be utilizing my phone with no other means of charging it, I carry my PocketJuice with 12,000 mAHr capacity. I'm good to go for a long, long time on battery life.
