I am looking to replace my Magpul handguard. It is the standard on you see on rifles. I've done some searching and can only come up with free float results. I want to replace it as it got hot after 60 rounds of target shooting with 1-3 seconds per shot. It has to fit the triangular handguard cap and the rifle a fixed front site post. If there isn't anything out there like that just tell me to stop trying to make my poor man rifle better.

Any handguard is going to get hot if your doing anything other than low round count slow fire. You could add a vertical or angled fore grip to keep your hand from being directly on it, try to find one of the heat guard wraps for it, or just wear gloves.

Shave the front sight post off and use whatever handguard you want with the appropriate barrel nut

Yeah. It just seemed to get a lot hotter than normal compared to when I've done similar in the past. Uncomfortably hot compared to normal. Maybe something was just odd the other day.

Gloves or a Paracord wrap will do the trick. Anything is gonna get hot. I Paracord wrap all my polymer handguards; about 4-5" of wrap (requires about 12' of cord). Super easy and you can take it off if you don't like it.

Pic shows a full wrap, but like I said I prefer just about 5".

I also do this on all my AK metal triangle stocks or braces. Keeps temps down in either direction (too hot or too cold).

Get good gloves.
They all get hot shooting more than a few mags.
They have been known to melt when using drums.
