I'm looking at a Colt on Colt's website and when I click ""Buy Now" next to the model I like, it takes me to Davidson's "Gallery of Guns". It tells you how many they have in stock, then you input your zip code and then click "Instant Quote" and up pops a half dozen LGS and their price for that gun. You pick one, and to order you make a 25% deposit, then Davidson's ships to that LGS in three days and you go pick it up and pay the balance.

Any downsides?

I know I could just ask the LGS to order it, but that particular dealer's quote in "Gun Genie" was actually $50 better on their otherwise competitive and largely non-negotiable price that I was given over the phone for a similar gun they had in stock.

I like supporting my local gun store and figure if they didn't want to sell through this on-line system, they wouldn't be signed up for it. It makes it awfully easy to execute the transaction from where I am sitting, unless I'm missing something.

definitely expand the search ive seen huuuuge differences in out the door amount.

Nope, it's pretty straight forward, just make sure you look over ALL of the numbers on the quotes to get the bottom line total price, the arrangement of numbers on the website can be misleading.

I see some have "fees" and all of them have a different amount for the tax for some reason. Only a few bucks difference though. I don't try to nickel dime my favorite dealers, and sometimes don't even ask the price (crazy, right?) but I just happened to click through their order process on-line and thought, what the heck is not to like about this, especially if no one has what I want in stock but it is sitting there in Davidson's warehouse? Especially if the price is right.

I do believe that Davidson's has their east coast distribution center in Greensboro.

Yeah look to forum sponsors.

I AMD I know many more sponsors here have a acct with that supplier.

How about posting and let us know if we can make some money off your order.

Agreed John. The last half dozen have come from site sponsors, and the one I'm looking at is from one of them.

I used it to find something no one else could get, but I didn't actually order on the site. I took the quote to my LGS listed as a premier dealer and they took care of the rest. Shipping was FAST - it arrived next day, shipped from NC to SC. Then my 4473 came back delayed and almost ruined my Christmas. Alas, all turned out well, as I actually ended up finding another thing on my list when I came to pick it up. The $400 GOG sale ended up at $1600 out the door.
