What happened at @Tim ’s place made me think of this.

During the install of our gate, I wondered what would happen if we ever called 911. I drove to the nearest fire station and asked whether they would write down the opening code (after they explained they would NOT breach such a gate). They told me to call the county Communications Center. I did so and they asked me to send the information by email and it would be entered into a database available for ANY emergency dispatch (Sheriff, Fire, etc.). The next day I received a return email that it had been done.

Something to consider. 😉

This made me think of something else. What about putting a "Knox box" by the door so that they can access a key instead of busting the door?

Actually, something first got me thinking about access thru the gate. Down the road from @MacEntyre ’s place is a driveway with double gates and openers. On the post is some kind of red lockbox that I assume must have a key or code within.

This is pretty common actually, same process as @Jeppo mentioned.... a lot of people do this for elderly family members who fall often or have medical issues.

The county dispatch can put it in a note for your address. We get it all the time in our dispatch info. They advise us of any gate codes or key boxes, or lock box codes. I have a key box on my front porch for the house, local dispatch has the code.

Why is it a hoky ranch gate and not a nice welded gate to match the black appropriate fence for the area of wealth you live in?

Maybe if you paint it and the posts black, that would help ???

Chalk it up to Shrinkflation.

As a compromise, I’m having a huge banner printed. Will ziptie it to the gate. 😎

ETA: I am considering painting the buckets black. 🤓

I have used both SOS boxes (sound operated sensor) and "click to enter" boxes.
One works off the yelp decibel noise.
The other is a radio receiver. EMS just keys the radio twice within close proximity and it opens the gate.
Great idea. But, what a price! 😳

Not very inviting looking.
I bet the neighbors will like driving past some cult compound.

Be sure to set one of those giant mercury lights that hum all night and a post a huge white camera.

They’re gonna love it when I get this finished. 😎

One consideration - if you are in a rural area with a volunteer fire/rescue department whose EMTs respond direct (i.e. they keep BLS equipment in their personal vehicle), sound activated boxes may not be the best option.

The first people showing up to help may not be able to get to you until an apparatus arrives with a siren to trip the sensor.

Code boxes or radio triggers don’t present that problem.

The only issue with a Knox box is they are all keyed the same in a given district. If someone were able to get a key, they will have access to all the boxes in that district. They can be set up with activation alarms to alert when they are opened.

I know the district I was a member of had a key in each vehicle. Have you ever ridden past a firehouse when they are out on a call and the bay doors are open?
