Have an M&P 15-22? Inspect it NOW!

Anyone that needs a guage, and near me, I have one available.

I never posted this because I thought I was years behind. Until this year I had not seen mine in years.

He’ll, I bought mine, shot it a couple times and it’s been in the back of one of the safes ever since! That’s been like whatever year they came out. And I just got rid of the box that it came in about 3 months ago!

I recently learned my M&P 15-22 is made within the affected date range (prior to Feb 1 2019) where Breech face counter bore depth of bolt is not within spec. I'm not about to send my bolt off for inspection with a totally unknown return date, when they offer to send each owner a free little inspection tool, which is basically a thick feeler gauge to check breech face depth. I called their specific customer service line 800-713-0356 for this. I provided my serial number which they checked to verify it falls within the affected range and I requested one of the small plastic gauges so i can check my own bolt. They took my address and said they'd send one out. (you can also email: [email protected] )

It has been about 6 weeks and I'm still waiting. My question is, anybody else done this already and received the little gauge that is willing to send it to me so I can check this thing and get back to plinking? I'd gladly pay postage. maybe we can even make it available for anybody on the forum to borrow. If I knew for sure the free little gauge was coming from S&W. I would probably just wait patiently, but the young woman on the phone that day sounded pretty grumpy to be there and did not inspire confidence that my order for the free gauge would be processed. Figured I'd ask here before sending S&W an email.

I'm near Raleigh. Please PM me if you have one of their free gauges. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

So.... Anybody get one of those free gauges they can share with a fellow member? Been waiting a long time for S&W and still nuthin...

You don’t even need the gauge. You can use a loaded rimfire round or an empty piece of brass.

I loaned mine to a friend right after it got it, and he’s yet to check his or even fire the rifle (had it for 2-3 years at this point).

Smith only ever really found 2 of them out of spec. Honestly if you have been shooting it, it's fine. I had 2 or 3 of the gauges and they measured differently anyway.

Hope so. I just ran across this thread, but don't think mine is affected and I've put at least a thousand rounds through it. I bought it new in Jan 2020 so I doubt it was manufactured before Feb 2019. Wish I could just enter the serial number to double check though. Or print the date of manufacture next to the serial number on the box label.

If you have the box there is a date code. Smith uses it for all their guns....you can look it up online
