I'm guessing military people and law enforcement people have been shot at in doing their jobs. But what about other people? Shot AT or plain shot.
Is this too emotional a subject? If so, let me know, I'm sure if you have been on the receiving end of a gun, it's been traumatic. I'm just curious by nature, sorry if I'm getting too personal!

Thankfully, no.
Was threatened once at a restaurant, we all were. That was the scariest moment of my life.
I couldnt see the gun man due to the booth I was in and where he was, so it was just a waiting game. Waiting to see/hear what happened. Thinking that I didnt want to get shot, I didnt want my friends getting shot.
And I could hear someone on the other side of the booth, and I just kept thinking "I hope they stop the bullet if it comes my way"
Terrible thought to have, but self preservation, fear of getting shot was at the front of my mind.

Yes, older lady in the hood, two small caliber rifle rounds, both near miss, I got behind a building and away.

Did have the owner of a driving range threaten to shoot me with rock salt for running out of the woods and stealing balls. He had the police come get me. Office asked for my address, I gave him one a few blocks from my house, when we got out of the car I bolted. At the time I thought I was something, now I think he was probably laughing his butt off. I was in 4th or 5th grade.

Once had a rifle pointed my way for helping out a guy that was being threatened by a guy with a rifle, but I wasn’t really at risk.

Ahh the good old days. Haven’t had such an issue in several decades.

My older brother almost got me with a 38.
He had taken me squirrel hunting. He was out in
the woods, and decided to start shooting at a feral dog.
One shot hit the tree I was standing under. About 2ft above my head!
If I were older, I would have stomped his ass. Only 10 or 11 yrs old at the time.

Kinda, sorta. But it was unintentional if that counts.

When I lived in CA I fished on the CA Delta a lot. Lived right near it. Basically it is hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands of miles depending on how you measure it of rivers, canals, flooded farms fields etc. There are also many small islands. One day while fishing the backside of an island I thought I heard gunshots. Next thing you know I hear the rounds going through the trees amd brush right near my boat. I freak out and hop in the driver seat and haul ass around the island. Preparing to tongue lash and beat the a-holes taking target practice. As I round the island I see a group of let's say visitors from the south all firing into the island trees from the levee across the river. I decide not to start a discussion and just haul ass about 60 MPH in the other direction.

I've also had some very polite if upset duck hunters fire into the air as my boat rounded a bend at 60 MPH and went directly through all their decoys. But it wasn't my fault they put decoys up in a commonly used boat path.

On our next episode of CA Delta fishing we will discuss naked women...

Nope. There's one person on this planet who owes me a bullet and he's a tack driver. If he ever decides to deliver I'll never hear it coming.

My deceased father in law was shot thru the hand for not giving a guy his wallet. Never touched a bone. I assume it was a tiny caliber pocket gun or the scar would have been bigger and less fingers.

I did have a guy pull a knife on me and lunge twice to stab me. I have a tiny scar on my arm where the knife penetrated about a half inch. Unfortunately he was sitting in the back seat of a two door car with limited movement. The driver received a number of sidekicks to the head and both windshield wipers stripped off before being able to get the car moving. He was upset that the driver was getting confronted for having the wife of the guy I was with in the car.

I’ve been a couple of places where people had guns drawn on them while I repaired convenience store refrigeration. I just went about my business and watched. The two notable times I can recall neither party notified police. Snitches get stitches street rules in the hood. I did miss a convenience store shotgun robbery by 5 minutes 45 seconds from home after I left troubleshooting a walk-in cooler. They caught the robber and got the whole $120 back. Had I been there it would not have mattered. I’m not losing my life for a little cash and I was not carrying nor had a gun in the van. There is a Glock43 there now.

I was at a bonfire when some fine upstanding individuals decided that popping off rounds at the crowd from a moving truck was a good idea. A couple hundred yards, their high speed and the rough ground conspired, some rounds chewed the dirt pretty near but no one got hit.

Also Rocksalt, but never lead.

As kids in the early to mid 80s we were throwing rail road spikes at automobiles being transported by rail from a Ford plant. It was a fun game we played. Dozens of cars damaged over a 2 week period.

They always had a guy with a rifle in the caboose, so we were smart enough to clear out well before the caboose got close.

They quickly outsmarted us placing a caboose in the middle of the train. 3 out of about 10 kids got shot. Mine was a ricochet. A big piece of salt went in my thigh. Several small pieces of both salt & concrete penetrated my leg, butt and lower back.

While I can't say I was a good kid after that, I haven't played games with trains since that day.

I had a car with a bullet hole in it. Rear passenger quarter panel into the hatch. I wasn't in or around the car when it happened. I really have no idea how or when it got there.

Been shot over at Butner. Sounds just like a gun going off even if the gun is 1000yds away. It is a little quieter than standing right next to one. Some folks dont wear hearing protection in the pits. I do. Had the spindle shot out of the target multiple times and once impacting my vehicle which you have to park in the pits behind the target stands. I dont shoot there anymore for various reasons but getting my vehicle shot is one of them. I'll go back when they have electronic scoring targets with no one in the pits.

Oh I forgot about my office window once, some folks really don’t like the cell phone company.

My best friend shot me when I was 16.

Rabbit hunting....We were in opposite sides of a thicket, bunny ran between us and I got a load of #7 in the boot and lower leg. Some bruising and a little blood. We never told mom.

Yeah, I'm thinking mom would be really pissed off, after she got past the fact that you were shot!!!

That must have been very scary.
did poo or pee come out?
Glad they didn't fire.

I was at work so I just acted. No poop or pee.

Only situation that I was actually spooked about was when a guy with aids spit in my face.

Before the range in town was rearranged, some of my cousins had rounds fly thru the woods very close to them. These cousins live only a few dozen yards from my house! I don't remember when this was, but needless to say they were pretty freaked out. I'm sorry you got shot! I'm kinda wishing I hadn't asked, as it's making me a bit nervous!

Many, many questions are flying around in my head! But I probably don't want to know what "work" was, and also probably don't want to know what "acted" means, and I'm happy about the lack of poop/pee.
I'm just going to leave it alone, very tough for me to do, and say I'm glad you dealt with it and weren't shot, and I hope you never get spit on again!
I probably should have given more thought to posting this thread.....

I was hit in the thigh by a shotgun when I was 12 and robbed and shot in the abdomen (through and through) and in the leg still have the bullet in my leg when I was 18 and been stabbed twice when I was 22

Been shot at numerous times, only hit once. Obviously non fatal, all in the line of duty....Protect and Serve and don't forget to duck!!
Line of duty....one of these days I need to have a conversation with someone in law enforcement/military to ask why they chose this particular job. I know some of y'all got drafted, but I've never really asked why people want to do this job!
And thanks to all who do!
I've known a couple of veterans pretty well, including Mom, but the one from the Viet Nam era doesn't like talking too deeply about it, so I've never asked the other one (Korea, maybe? VN maybe, or both?) a lot of questions.
and I'm very glad it wasn't fatal, needless to say. But sorry it happened at all!

My story is pretty short, Georgia State Patrol came through the University of Arkansas recruiting and offered to pay for my last 2 years if I would come work for them for 4 years. I was young, didn't have any way to pay for the last 2 years and wasn't doing anything else so I signed up. Did the 4, turned into another 4, and another, so forth and so on.....
Kind of became addicting and it gave me a family to call my own (was an orphan) I loved it up to a point.....
