We will be hosting another Hawks Ridge Cold Bore Challenge on January 12th, 2019. There will be 6 or 7 stages with different positions and steel targets, 1-3 MOA in size, all the way out to 1025 yards. This will be the regular $30 shoot, and will not have the shirts and prizes from our big fall shoot.

When: Saturday, January 12th 2019

Time: Registration opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 8:40 AM

Start time: 9:00 AM sharp!

End time: 3:00 PM

Round count: TBD - Bring 105 rounds at least

Time Limit: All stages will have a 3 minute (180 second) time limit

Stage count: There will be 6 or 7 stages shot concurrently.

MD may also assign new shooters to squads and we encourage and appreciate your support of the new shooters in the group.

Prone position

Multiple positions off of a barrier

No mechanical rests like bench rests and only field style back packs may be used. Additional restrictions may be placed on specific stages. A sling is recommended.

Targets: All targets will be painted and may be grouped by stage by shape and/or marked with color to avoid stage/target confusion. Know your intended target before you pull the trigger!

Ranges

Closest target = ~100 yards

Farthest target = >1,000 + yards

Actual course of fire, stages and ranges will be shared the morning of the match.

Warning! HRGC is a working cattle farm. DO NOT SHOOT THE LIVESTOCK! You'll be charged fair market value for any damaged property and you'll have to take it home with you. :)

Volunteers Needed: Qualified RO's shoot free in exchange for being RO. You must be experienced and you must commit to the entire match. Please notify staff when registering. First come, first served. We might only need a few so please speak up if you'd like to be involved.

Also, please bring your spotting scopes for use during the match. We realize these are expensive items and we'll cover this in the morning brief. There will be a spotting stationed at each stage, and it will be designated to stay for that stage.

Absolutely No touching or moving spotting scopes except by designated RO's.

Trying to get a crew together so we came come out and play. Basically a rear bag, bipod, and pack is all that can be used correct? No tactical moose tit bags or game changers?

Game Changer, Pump Pillow ect... are OK. No tripods or bench rests. I'm not speaking as an official but I shoot at all these matches and this is what I have seen.

Pretty much nailed it. Bags and bipod and sling are ok. The spirit of the match is focused on the marksmanship. We try to be relatively benign with equipment rules while suppressing the gear races and gaming the match. Scoring reflects that, too - every shot counts. Lotsa good folks have been out there, and it’s a good time.

There may be a stage with further restrictions. Last time there was one stage with only a sling allowed.

I have posted every one here and will continue to do that. Also, if you are on Facebook, the group is “Hawks Ridge Gun Club” with no apostrophe on the Hawks.

There will probably be 4-6 of these this year. I’m sure we’ll have another big shoot with t shirts, food and prizes again this year.

I’d love to get in on one once I have data to go by.
This is an old excuse. You don’t have to have everything all figured out before you even attempt shooting a small cheap match like this.

If you have a 100 yd zero and know your muzzle velocity, you can make a drop chart that will get you on target. (The quality of the initial data from a drop chart is dependent upon the quality and consistency of the inputs into the calculator.) From there it’s a matter of trigger time, learning, and recording what you’re learning.

Plus, there are many knowledgeable shooters who will help you out at matches like this.

Don’t have a chrono. I will try to get to a match soon. I have my 10/22 and Bergara to get ready for this year.

You don't need a chrono!

1. Look up your bullet's ballistic coefficient
2. Use your phone to get weather data when zeroing, density altitude preferably
3. Plug that info into any of the free on line ballistics apps along with your zero yardage. Dummy up a muzzle velocity, it doesn't matter at this point.
3.5 Shoot to confirm zero.
4. Shoot a couple groups at a longer distance than your zero. The greater the difference, the better.
5. Note the drop in inches, clicks, etc.
6. Go back to your ballistics app and goof with the MV until its calculation of the drop matches your real world results.
7. Bingo.

It's important to do the zero distance and the longer distance on same day so you're dealing with same weather/density altitude when getting your drop.

I’m going tomorrow, I have a butt ton of Privi 155s (like 1300). Going to 0 at 100, the measure the drop at 300 (I use mrad for the scope).

Concession Stand:
The menu for Saturday will be chili beans, cornbread and drink $7 or 1 hotdog, chips and drink $5. Coffee. Correct change is appreciated. Due to the fact that we don't have regularly scheduled matches we will be limited to drink choices.

Coffee and beer is all we need!

Do we need slings? because if so, im sh*t out of luck, no sling mounts! haha

How was the match?

Cold!
It was fun. That is a great bunch of guys to shoot with. No chest thumping, big heads, or crying.
Stage 1. Tank trap. 2 targets at 1000 then test your limits rack at 500.
Stage 2. Sling only. Stand, sit/ kneel, prone. 16 inch target at 450.
Stage 3. Boat simulator. Targets at 500, 1000, then hostage target with no shoots at 600.
Stage 4. Cable spool barricade.Targets at 500,600,800. (Tip! Dial elevation when going to next target, GRRRRRRR!:()
Stage 5. Prone. Targets at 1000,800, 1000.
Stage 6. Roof top. 3 targets at 500-600.
I don't have everything in front of me so I kinda rounded the yardages but you get the idea.
3 Minute stages. First 2 targets are hit then move with up to 5 shots. Third target you shoot 5 times.

Sounds like a very fun match I wanted to come but my grandfather isn't doing to well. I'm coming to one before the year is out.
