Anybody planning on signing up? Finally got the official word today that it’s included in my employee discount at work. It’s free (or included, however you want to say it) for anybody that’s already an HBO subscriber, which we already get through work, so I was assuming we’d get it...but they put it in writing today.

I did notice they have a promo rate online if you sign up from 4/30 until 2:59a on 5/27/20. $11.99/mo for 12 months, which is $3/mo off regular price.

Info here: www.hbomax.com

I think we’ll drop AppleTV when this comes out. Possibly Netflix as well. We’ll sign back up for those whenever a new season of The Morning Show (ATV) or Stranger Things (NF) comes out.

Well I recently switched to an unlimited att wireless plan and am supposed to have some free hbo, but I can’t make it work. He k I can’t even figure out which app it runs in.

Any idea how that promo price compares with the cost of adding it to a cable package?

This is a no brainer at least for the first year. I pay 14.99 for hbo currently through amazon prime access.

I think you may already get it then. If you’re already an HBO subscriber of any kind (as I understand it), HBO Max becomes part of the package.

I don’t know what HBO costs as an addition. But if you’re paying for it as part of cable, the HBO Max will be included. There’s supposed to be an option to log in using your cable login. Similar to if you’re logging in to CBS/NBC/ABC app using your cable or satellite provider info.

It’s way more than just HBO. It’s actually all of WarnerMedia’s stuff. HBO, all the DC movies, TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Rooster Teeth (whatever that is, but they kept mentioning it at the rollout)...and supposedly have a big lineup of original content coming. I think it’ll be somewhat similar to Netflix in that regards.

I actually just signed up via your link, signed in through HBONOW on the smart TV and then canceled old plan via Amazon. I'm now signed up at the promo rate and can save for the next year.

I found, on Spectrum’s site, that HBO costs $15 per month.

This help?

https://forums.att.com/conversation...-unlimited-data-plan/5defc152bad5f2f606c843fc

Looks like you end up getting the DirecTV Now app, or the HBO Go app. You should be able to use that same login for HBO Max starting on 5/27.
Yeah, I can log into ATT just fine, but can’t log into Direct TV. When I try it kicks me to the ATT reset password and if I do that it just starts the cycle all over again. One day that I have some free hours I’ll call them.

Just making sure...

You’re trying the DirecTV Now app, not the DirecTV app, right?

Pm sent, think I’m getting close!

No, trying HBOGo

but the failure is at the website long before I get to using the app.

Took a training class intended for techs today to see if there was any info of interest. Not too much there, but I did notice something that I’d missed earlier. Those of you with 1GB Fiber get it for free as well, even if you don’t currently have AT&T TV, Uverse, or DirecTV. This is the list of ways to get it included in whatever you’re already paying:

HBO Max has all your favorites, all in one place. Plus, it will be included with any AT&T plan that currently includes HBO.

Starting May 27, get HBO Max included at no extra cost with:
  • DIRECTV PREMIER
  • DIRECTV LO MAXIMO
  • U400 and U450 TV
  • AT&T TV NOW Max
  • AT&T TV Max
  • AT&T Unlimited Elite wireless plan
  • AT&T Internet 1000

Oh yeah, 3 simultaneous streams allowable. That’s one answer I hadn’t stumbled across in any of the FAQ I’d seen.

Anyone know if it’s included if you pay for HBO through Amazon Prime?
Everything I’ve read says if you’re a current HBO subscriber, it’s included.

@DCGallim

I’m editing this post to add the below:

There’s an FAQ section on www.hbomax.com, and it lists AT&T TV, DIRECTV, AT&T U-Verse, Hulu and Spectrum as partners. It also says you can sign up through any of those plus YouTube TV, Apple and Google Play. I don’t see Amazon specifically mentioned anywhere.

As I noted earlier, I used to pull HBO through Prime. I cancelled Prime access and signed up through the promo link BW posted and got the lower price secured for the next year. Now to access HBO I use the HBOnow app on my smart TV. I can also sign in from my smartphone and cast it to a Chromecast hooked up to an older TV. I doubt you'll get the promo price extended to you if you just stay signed up through Prime, the point of the promo is to get new business not reward old customers.

Found a way to get HBO Max on the Firestick. Wife watched the three episodes of the Anna Kendrick original show, then we watched three episodes of McMillion$.

Lesson learned. If you have HBO Now app (maybe HBO Go works the same), delete it first. But don’t go and delete it from the cloud. It should still show up under See All apps, but with the little cloud icon in the corner.

I made the mistake of deleting it completely, and I could download Max and run it. But if it closed it, there was no icon to open it back up. It did show up under Settings -> apps -> manage installed applications, but that gets annoying.

Now I have the HBO Now app:

But when you click it, HBO Max opens:

I followed the instructions in the video below. Note there’s a different method, using Apps2Fire, somebody mentions in the comments that should work easier if you have an Android tablet or phone (we don’t...well, we have a Kindle Fire, but I didn’t try it).

I imagine it will be like Disney+. A bunch of stuff I've seen, a bunch of stuff I'm not interested in, and a couple of new things I'd like to see...

If it's free with my HBO, cool. If not, I'm not a buyer...

And it does show up as HBO Max under Manage Installed Applications:

I'm underwhelmed with MAX. They hid everything, they're holding back stuff and they chose to feature prominently some real garbage content. AT&T needs to get some help that knows how to fix this. You'd think they'd have TV shows sorted by the network they originally aired on.

Dunno...if I was looking for something I’d look based on show name, but original network.

But, don’t they have sections down below that are set up by network, similar to Disney+ (which has them at the top)? I’ve seen them, just haven’t clicked on any.

Well guys, it's time to cancel your HBOmax subscriptions and renew under a new email address. There's a new promotion out that saves like $40-50 on an annual subscription. According to Variety they're having to do this because they keep pulling down content as they rework the service with Discovery+. Thing is they aren't rewarding loyalty. My sub was set to renew in September at full price. F that. So I cancelled and had my wife sign us right back up for service to get the discount.
