Remember me falling off the roof several weeks ago? Well, I get the cast off my forearm and the pins removed from my wrist this Monday. Just in time to go back in for rotator cuff surgery/reconstruction the following Monday. Dr. Hasty in Greenville, NC will be doing the surgery. He said that from what he could see on the MRI that I had really done a good job on *****ing it up and that if I were older we would be looking at a total shoulder replacement. He's going to use cadaver tissue to rebuild part of my cuff.
I am NOT looking forward to this, but I AM looking forward to getting on to recovery and getting back to leatherwork and doing the things I like to do.
I'm most scared of the pain immediately following surgery. Once things heal up and "take", I believe I can handle the pain of physical therapy.

I just had the rotator cuff surgery on the 3rd. If they offer the nerve block. Take it immediately it will work for 18 to 24 hours

Mine was shredded along with the bicep tendon. My left now looks like popeye but the pain is getting better every day.

Wishing you the very best in surgical care and the subsequent follow up necessary to get things back to where life is better for you Tom. Sounds like you really experienced some serious damage to the shoulder and wrist. Those recent photos are convincing enough.

Take care and focus on getting through this so you won't experience worse issues later in life.

Are you still in a sling?

I'm going to ask for a nerve block, pain pump afterwards, oxycodone, valium, circulating ice pump...everything they'll give me.

I understand where you are coming from yesterday was 4 weeks after my knee replacement most days are great but the weather changes hurt and the person I had the other day for PT was tough. I work hard during the PT we dit a little over a hour including 40 reps (non stop) on the leg press machine with 130 lbs 5 min on the sitting stair stepper I was doing between 96 and 105 step a min

Hang tough and get healed up asap. I do NOT mean to trivialize your pain & suffering, but try to appreciate the miracle of modern medicine that can bring you back after a catastrophic fall. Maybe it'll help ya get through to the other side. (If it weren't for said mod medicine, I'd likely be on cane or crutches for the rest of my future.)

Keep us posted!

6 weeks in a sling The circulation ice pump is absolutely the best friend I have had.

Eta: the 6 weeks has some to do with the bicep reattachment

I am indeed thankful for the miracles of modern medicine. I'm also thankful that I wasn't paralyzed or worse as a result of my fall.
It's just tough not being able to be really active, because I've always been busy doing something. I can't even sit still long enough to watch a football game on TV - I'd rather be cutting grass chopping wood instead.

Honestly….this highlighted comment you made is exactly what I've been thinking since I heard of your accident. Things could have been much, much worse than they are now when you stop and think about how your injuries came about.

Knowing that you are actually ABLE to participate in therapy and get around is a lot to be thankful for. Stop and think about those individuals who are paralyzed or worse from lower impact accidents as you have already mentioned.

Life is good my friend...……..life is good.

I've pump good. After starting OF I noticed the they where using water bottles instead of loose ice. Froze several bottles, used a couple at a time, kept several in freezer. Much easier than loose ice.
Mine was torn plumb in two, Dr. had to drill and set pins to reattach to.I
Good luck.

Wishing you well. Please keep us posted as soon as you are able.

They should drill and set anchors to suture to. I have 4 anchors for the rotator cuff and 2 for the bicep

Honestly the bicep seems way worse than the others. That may be to them being so close together.

Good luck and heal quickly

Same as knee replacement stay ahead of the pain and do EXACTLY what they tell you

Prayers for a speedy recovery.

I've been known to sit in one place so long, that I'll have to clean pigeon droppings from my clothes when I start to move. My Dad, on the other hand, is like you. He's always doing something.

Over the last year, he's been dealing with enough pain that he finds it difficult to do the things he wants to. It's been beating him up mentally, not being as active as he used to be. One doctor has diagnosed him with osteo-arthritis. He does a little better today, but sometimes, if he doesn't pop an ibuprofen or two, he almost can't function.

Glad you're not worse off and I hope for a quick recovery.

Wishing you a quick recovery, hope youre ok bro.

Wish you a quick and smooth recovery. Do your best to suck up the pain as it will be worth in in the long run!

Do not let yourself get too bound up from the pain killers. Milk of Magnesia is the best thing I have found!

.......i know it sucks.......but like said, this incident could have been wayyyyyy worse. Hang in there, tough it out and get back to normal ASAP!!! Glad you are still able to post with us! I have been there with hand-wrist surgery a few yeara back. Trash bag and rubber bad over one arm for every shower, PT hurt like hell and was like a second job for a few weeks, extremely sore for about 5 days after surgery, had to wipe with off hand, etc etc.....but it got better with time. Keep us posted.

Hang in there Triggernosis. We all have confidence in you. A piece of cake, right. That from a guy who last time I went to the hospital, went in and could count to 10 and came out one short. LOL.

Yep, the wife ordered me a couple of sleeves that are used to reach up a cow's ass and I tape it off under my arm when I take a shower. 1 more day of that bull

I just had shoulder replacement in June, get the nerve block!
Take pain meds BEFORE you need them... Once you start feeling the pain, it's too late!
I have a ice water circulation system. if you want it, I'll send it to you, just say the word!
Also have an assortment of very fancy/very expensive slings (most new) that I hope I'll never wear.
Rehab sucks but stick with it.
(Find a busy rehab shop so hopefully you'll have something female to watch to take your mind off what you're doing)

They are probably going to dress you up in a 10-14 day waterproof bandage that will stay on until you're 1st follow up appointment.
With it, you can shower normal.
I used a crap blue cloth sling that hospital gave me to shower in then switch back to $800 sling for all other time.

I was intending to try to find one of those ice machines this week, so that would be great if I could get yours. I will send you a message.
This place is great! Thanks.

Good luck and prayers for a highly successful surgery and recovery.

I’m not sure about anyone else but.... use those heavy duty meds with an abundance of caution! I’ve heard that dependence can begin in as few as 3 days!!! I took one pill after my hernia surgery then turned in the balance after recovering for controlled disposal. They scare the snot out of me....
