Welcome and we're glad to have you join up with us here.

Welcome, we're happy to have you with us. A S&W AR15 for your first gun? You made a fine choice. Got plans for the next one? And the next one? And the next one?

Hello all,
First time gun owner. S&W AR-15.
A couple of very basic questions:
1. Do gun ranges want/expect you to have guns in case when entering?
2. Is a rifle transported in a gun case considered a concealed weapon?

Thanks!
Jim

Hello Jim D. from Greensboro

1. Yes, it is considered good manners but if you do not have a case you can/should approach the range officer and work out an approach plan.

2. It would/could be considered concealed if it is in reach of the driver or passengers.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for signing up!

Welcome.

Cases are just good to have, whether the range wants you to have one or not.
Keep your gun free from any foreign object messing with it during transit etc

Welcome

Welcome from Greensboro. Grab a case for it with a few pockets For mags.

Greetings, Merry Christmas and welcome to CFF Jim! Happy to have you here.

Welcome to CFF!!

Welcome aboard

Glad to have ya mister D.. Check out the forums. We have a big pile of NRA instructors in here and ROs too. I know any of them would be glad to help you. I don't have to say anything about safety, it's the live horse that we beat a lot in here. It's first.
Welcome to the forums and anytime you travel with a black gun it should be in a case in your trunk or in a locked box on the truck bed. Or in the cargo compartment in the minivan. That's so a police officer will stay calm. These days they're not at all fun if they get excited. ;)

Howdy from Forsyth.

Some ranges expect cases. Some have it in the club bylaws but don't seem to care. Matches are wierd and the rules may not be the clubs own, so if you want to go them ask about the specific one. No one will ever frown on you having it in a case.

Casing in a vehicle is sort of grey. Law is something like it is unlawful to have concealed and accessible. In a in a case in the passenger seat might he viewed as concealed by an officer in which case you will have a charge or go to court to argue that any moron should know that's a gun case, I believe there is case law regarding this. If it's not in reach (lunge) of anyone it doesn't need a case but can be in one. Locked affects accessible and should be a defense, but again the court of the roadside sucks.
