I was reading a Bookface page tonight where it’s members post “helpful” posts about where certain liquors can be found. It gave me an idea. Why can’t we do this? If we find certain hard to find liquors (mostly bourbons) we can post the location and time to help out other forum members. ABC stores in NC are nortorious for not putting certain liquors on the shelf. This could help some members like Amnesia who are trying to start collecting or those of us who are looking for something specific to add to our collections. We could also offer things to sell or trade.( if it’s ok with forum rules). What sayeth my fellow CFF brethren? I would guess there are enough of us looking for Blantons , Buffalo Trace, etc, to make a tread like this worthwhile. Thoughts?

Great idea.

I have found some of my favorite drinks on this board and would be more than happy to share any info. While I am perfectly content with a bottle of Oban (thanks for turning me on to that) I would like to try some of these back room whiskeys.

Please, help me understand. What is the incentive for an ABC store to not put a liquor out? For their friends? To obtain a bribe? To sell on the side? How does one go about breaking into the exclusive ABC liquors club? Offer a $10 on each bottle to the guy at the register?
I like you, wondered all of the above. Certain whiskeys are allocated or special order only in NC. They are received as supplies dictate, not as orders are received. When these allocated liquors are received by the stores, they are not just put on the shelves. Each ABCseemingly has a different way of handling this. This is the rub. If you aren’t a favorite customer, on a list, or in a lottery you aren’t getting some liquors. I’ve never heard of bribes, but I’m kind of new to this game.
The point of this thread is, if you don’t know somebody, are extremely lucky, are well connected, you aren’t getting some of these liquors. I’m attempting to make us well connected by the power of this forum.
.

If you know a store has an order of Blantons for example, you can “show up”and ask the person working the register if they have any available. If you aren’t a Richard, and they like you, they may sell you a bottle from behind/ under the counter. For example, I just recently knew where Buffalo Trace was available if you knew to ask. Hence, the reason for this thread.

Here in the mountains, if a certain bourbon is only delivered once every 3 months, the ABC clerk will keep it in the back off the shelves so that the "regulars", his local steady customers, have first chance to purchase it. Also, Tennessee ABC stores are privately owned which makes their selection greater.

If you have access to TN stores you ar in luck! Yes, in a lot of N.C. counties, if you don’t know a store has certain spirits, and know to ask, you aren’t getting them. Thus the need for this thread.

I own a bar, but I'm not a drinker. I have a very good business relationship with the liquor store that the ABC board has assigned me for my orders. I'll be glad to check on availability for certain brands for you guys. Just let me know what to look for. I do know there is a lottery for the most in demand brands. I have a customer that always asks for Pappy Van Winkle. Last year all of Mecklenburg County was allotted only 8 bottles and there were about 50,000 entries in the lottery.

Cause Bourbon sucks! Actually I like where you are coming from. The Liquor store here has a section for NC based liquors and once when I was looking for something for a gift they invited me to the back to peruse the not so common stock.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Most people don’t know the back room deal. If you don’t know to ask or are just not nice to the clerks, you’ll never see the “back room stuff”. What I’m willing to do, is when I see stuff post it here. Maybe to help a brother out. Hopefully we can build a network that would be beneficial. Heck, I’d a whole lot rather this stuff stay in our group rather than other non like minded folks. Worth a shot. (Pun intended)

Nice of you to offer! I wasn’t thinking Pappy. That’s shooting for the moon.I’m sure Blantons would be a popular ask of the more available swill. E H Taylor. That kind of stuff.

Just got confirmation that all Wake Co ABC’s will get 1 case of BT and 1 case of Blanton’s in the next few days. On your mark, get set, go!

I dont collect liquor but read almost all the posts in the forum and remembered you guys mentioning buffalo trace. I was at the abc store in Dobson NC today getting vodka for my old lady to clean with and saw a few (6/8) bottles of the buffalo trace you guys mentioned. Not sure if there are different kinds but thought I’d mention it just incase.

Yay! Thats exactly the kind of post we liquor hounds need. Thanks!

The Fuquay store either hasn’t received or hasn’t put out the BT or the Blantons as of 2 o’clock today. Amnesia, you’ll need to check somewhere else today.

As of 6 min ago, New Bern ave ABC has BT and Blantons. If you're in Ral might as well swing by......

I gave up trying to chase them down. I stopped by one today because @thrillhill gave me the run down of who was getting what. There were 3 people already there waiting and it hadn't arrived.

Any of you ever spot a bottle of Arundel rum, lemme know.

It's made by Callwood's Distillery in Tortola BVI and as far as I know, that's the only place you can get it. Friend of mine and his family went on a cruise years ago and brought a bottle back.

Best damned rum I've ever had.

My closest ABC I never go to ( Peter Creek in WS) because the people there stuck. I typically drive 30 minutes out of my way to hit a couple good stores. Thing is, I rarely see the same faces in there. Kinda hard to get in good with them if the keep turning over.

Love this thread idea, too!

Thanks! I'm trying to help the peeps around here, figured others would want to do the same.

Seeing Blanton’s pop up at the coast and around Durham/ Chapel Hill. You guys might want to check your sources.

If you see any and happen to feel generous grab me a bottle ;)

I asked the lady at the local store if they had any of the hard to find bourbons, she said they and the Sanford store had Blantons last week. They're held them back because it's only one bottle a person, all you have to do is ask.
A thread's a good idea. Maybe keep a list of who wants what, in what area at the top. I'm not a bourbon buyer, so I don't remember who's looking for what.
I will alert or grab some if I know it's wanted/I'll get my $ back.

As a former drunk, now sober over 36 years, I can't grasp the concept if seeking out "fine" or hard to find anything with alcohol in it.
My goal was drunk. Not drink. Ha!

I would like to try some of the higher end stuff but I don't want to ask and then feel obligated to buy a $200 bottle of booze. Are there any $50-$75 dollar bottles out there worth trying?

There's quite a bunch.

E. H. Taylor, eagle rare, bib and tucker, to name a few that come to mind right away

I like the Russell's. I'm moving up into the same price range you're looking in.

Ramsey St ABC in Fayetteville has a good supply of Buffalo Trace. 8 min ago.
Grove St has some also.

You sir, need to visit a bourbon bar. $8-40 for a 1 oz pour for most of the high end stuff in NC.

List from a place in Durham

I’ve never seen a bottle of Noah’s Mill in the wild but have had a glass and it was good, very smooth at 110 proof.

Readily available here if you need a bottle on our next trip back.

I'm trying to find a four Rose's small batch select if anyone sees one around...
