Like it states I am looking to put together a small game rifle Squirrels Raccoon etc. I do a a Ruger takedown and standard Ruger 10/22 stock just wondering what you fellows like or have

Ever shot a Marlin 39A? If ya have not, you're cheating yourself!

All you will ever need for tree rats. This ones been taking care of them since 1968.

The cz 455 american is a very nice bolt action 22 with more standard comb stock. Can't go wrong with a 10/22 either.

I'd keep your 10/22 for a semi auto. If you want a bolt action, Savage FV-SR is hard to beat for the money. CZ if you want to spend a bit more.

Another vote for a Marlin Model 60. I have 2 and sold 1 I really wish I hadn't.

I've got two of the savage bolt guns, an older one in 17hmr that was is primary desert rabbit gun, and one of the newer factory threaded models in 22. They're both plenty accurate and cheap... so you'll have lots of cash left over to spend on optics.

However... I've had some trouble with the 17hmr mags, if you close the bolt and pop in a full mag it often times won't feed the first round in. Super annoying when out hunting and you want to get a round in there in a hurry. Downloading the mag by 1 solves this, but it's still worth noting. I've also had the mags "self empty", you seat a full mag in the rifle with the bolt open and suddenly all the rounds come flying out the top of the rifle. Again, downloading by 1 cures this. Still, annoying. I've got 4 mags, all factory and they all tend to do this on occasion.

The new MKII 22 has no such feed or mag problems. They must have sorted it out.

Second that. I have a 40 year old one that is accurate as heck and very reliable (as long as ya keep her wet).

I've got a Revelation 115 that is dead on and light enough to tote all day.

An underrated and very cool little rifle IMHO.

Absolutely. I can throw half a sleeve of shorts or Colibri in there for popping cans in the yard with the landlords kids or anything else up to Stingers for potting squirrels.

Never given me a lick of trouble. Mine even had a gorgeous stock until I messed up drilling for swivels. Still makes me kick myself.

Marlin 60 if you can get it cheap, or the 795.
Ruger American or Marlin XT with a tube mag for a bolt gun.

But I kill the heck out of tree rats with my 10/22 and CCI SV each year

Now you should thread it and Form 1 a maglight can on it.

I'm still a filthy alien mate, no Form 1 for me.

It's movie quiet with Colibri, makes a sort of soft whoop sound. Shame they bounce off small game lol

I've killed many squirrels with a nearly identical rifle. The scope is the same age as the .22 and it's still zeroed. Haven't changed a thing

If you can buy a rifle, you should be able to do NFA. Ridiculous

I have 2 Marlin 60s and they are as accurate as anything I have ever shot. Only PITA is loading the tube. I am thinking of picking up a 10/22 just for the fact of being able to swap mags out.

You've done such a good job of assimilating that I forgot for a minute. Gun store, hanging out in Danville, guns, random mutt dog, etc etc. :)

If your gunna scope it cz452 American, if not cz452 trainer
if your going 10/22 don't forget your Kidd trigger!

I vote Ruger.....10/22. I also vote for the takedown. ..I love mine. The savages and CZ are nice. ...but I still like my ruger.
And I'll put my ruger up against the above...yeah its had some trigger work (volquartsen) but she's dead nut accurate and reliable with the right ammo (cc I ir federal)

I have a Trainer and I suck with open sights. Just put some TechSight apertures on it and
i now have hope. Should make me a lot more accurate. But the rifle itself has been great.

Just to start a fight do I get to put an expensive after market trigger in my CZ before we battle? :p

Volquartsen ain't an expensive trigger. That prob brings the Ruger in line with the cz.

Let me have a Kidd trigger and you can have whatever you want. ...lol

yea I do like mine and have changed trigger assembly out

It's hard to go wrong with any of them. Anything with a Marlin microgroove barrel is unbelievably accurate for the money. 39a is a primo ride for sure. Ruger 77, CZ452,455, 10/22, I've owned them all and more.

I like pistol hunting. Contender pistol in 22lr with 14" barrel will get them as far as a rifle will.

If I went in the woods tomorrow I would carry my Anschutz 64 MPR. No it isn't a hunting rifle per second, but it is the most accurate thing I own.

Any of them will get the job done, I'd stay away from the tacticool AR variants unless I was shooting steel challenge.

The Marlin 60 is usually much more accurate than the 10-22 out of the box. About the only thing you need to do is find the ammo that it likes. I would not use the "hot" stuff. I would start with CCI Mini Mag standard velocity. The Marlin should do about 1 1/2" at 50 yards.
With that accuracy I would get a good scope. Magnification rather than clarity. If you can find both for under a $100.00 buy it. The 22lr
