The 2 im mainly looking at are

Vortex Diamondback Tactical:

PA 4-14x44 FFP:
http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-...pe-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle-pa4-14xffp308

I get military discount for Vortex, which would make the DB about $30 less than the PA.. but Im thinking the PA being FFP and the reticle would be better than the vortex?

Will be shooting 50-600 yards. More closer ranges mostly, but will stretch it out sometimes to 300+

I have exactly zero long range experience, but after looking through a bunch of scopes and shooting several brands at 100 yards I think I lean towards @greenheron theory. Leupold and higher end Japanese scopes are very good for the $$. Sure a Nightforce or German wonder scope are probably great, but for us budget folks Leupolds and higher end SWFA, Vortex, Sightron etc seem pretty good. Plus I'd rather pay a little more and reduce my chances of a return or unhappiness.

I have a Vortex 6X24X50 Mil Dot on mine. Makes hitting plates out to 600 easy. 600 is as far as the range goes.

You need to talk to hlpressley , he is a member on here. He can probably set you up with a new Athlon Optics scope. They are pretty reasonable and have very clear glass.

Hlpressley quoted me some great prices on scopes! I happened to find one on a local board but HL was very helpful in the hunt

OP did you ever decide on a scope? I see you asked back in Apr so I'd guess by now you must have? I'm another Vortex fan, and with the 40% discount for military their hard to pass up. Another great reason to go with Vortex is the warranty, very easy to use and no questions asked.

I had a buddy use it and had a free shipping label and new scope sent back to him all in two days, I'm sure most companies have a good warranty but Vortex works fast!

We got a deal on a strike eagle from a member and went with that for a while but it really limited the rifle, i feel, with the 6x magnification. I had a crossfire 2 6-18x44 sitting in the safe and have since put that on my grendal. I havent shot it yet with that glass, but i was super happy with it, for a cheap scope on my ruger bolt gun, so it should be great on this as well.
