D2E78972-11C9-4748-95CB-13DFFC1FD99E.jpeg I’ve finally got a rifle that I want to run a red dot on. I’m poor so I’m looking something that’s not to expensive with real world feedback from y’all. On the 2 rifles I like the little red dot better than the round one but I like the height of the big one. Struggle trying to zero it today. Help a red dot newbie out, BTW these rifles are the She I it.

Shameless plug - I am selling a LNIB DI Optical RV1 for 200 bucks. It is a Korean copy of an Aimpoint M4 and runs on a AA battery. There are some YouTube reviews of them throwing it off buildings and it's just fine afterwards.

I didn't like the lens covers that came with it so bought a bikini cover. If you are a Keltec fan it would be just fine on a 308 RFB. Also it has a few night vision settings-

The DI Optical is essentially an Aimpoint, cheaper. Probably the best non-Aimpoint reflex sight on the market. I like Holosun; to me, PA red dots feel cheap. But the people who have them, love them.

Yep, Primary Arms stuff are pretty cheaper Chinese clones. My oldest PA micro is over 7 years old and has survived a 10 year old growing up to now and he’s 17 on a MP 15-22. The finish sucks compared to my Aimpoint T-1 I’ve had since ‘08 or ‘09 and the dial clicks are mushy. The battery life of my old PA micro is less than 5,000 (the newer ones are way longer).

I never trusted the PA micro on any HD carbine but it actually has had 10 times the use as the Aimpoint with no issues. The fit and finish are in par with an optic with a price point 1/5 that of the Aimpoint but the damn thing does keep working ... salon as you have batteries for it.

As to Holosun I’m with you on it being a damn good budget alternative but it’s still a Chinese made clone of the Aimpoint Micro all be it the fit and finish are a damn sight better than old PA stuff but they do run a little more than PA stuff. I won a Holosun 515GM as raffle prize at a shot a year or so back and that thing has been on a carbine turned on 24/7 since. It’s been thru my kid’s hands, my hands 2 carbine classes and a bunch of weekend impromptu range sessions. It does feel solid and I like the controls better but it is also newer technology. It’s still on the first battery which supposedly has 2 or so more years of life. Will I bet my life on it like an Aimpoint? Not quite yet but it is sitting on a backup HD carbine and I don’t really worry about it.

How about the Sig red dots?

They can be had for $109 on Amazon. They work great for me on fun guns. I opt for Aimpoints on more serious guns but honestly for a range toy the $109 Rig Romeo does everything that the Aimpoint does.

I love the Sig Romeo 5 -- it's rugged, easy to set up and use, and it won't break your bank.
