Dry firing the P229 with snap caps. Ran a few trigger pulls without snap caps (by mistake). Other than actually shooting the firearm, is there any way I can tell if I damaged the pin? And if I did, how difficult is it to replace one?

Sig Sauer says dry fire is ok but advises a snap cap for “ extensive dry firing” whatever that means. I think you’re good.

Answer to your question tho is ‘strip the slide and inspect the parts’

The firearm worked great before I installed an SRT. Haven’t been to the range to test it yet but can’t imagine it would impact the firing pin.

I pushed the pin forward (slide off the frame) and it barely poked out. Before I freak out more I’ll need some range time I guess.

You are fine. Take a pencil and put the eraser side down the barrel and dry fire the gun. The pencil will bounce. Then you can find something else to obsesses over.

Glad I am not the only one who does this. A standard cheap Bik pen will make a nice little hole in your ceiling.

And the pencil came flying out of the barrel - so yes, I can now fixate on something else. Thanks for all the advice.

HAHA Yep, it is fine to dry fire your Sig without a snap cap. However, if you dry fire like my middle son Dalton you can break your Sig. If your dry firing is "excessive" which seems to be about 10 k round or more a month, you probably want to keep some fresh snap caps around. Otherwise you get to send it back to Sig and get a little note about "excessive" dry firing.
