I have a cannon gun safe with electric lock that went south, and unable to open it.

yes I have tried new batteries

if I know which wire is power to the solenoid, I have already found the ground...guess I could get my power probe with the 5 volt tester and just see which one energize the solenoid.

Call/email cannon......

I'm sure they would want to help one of their customers.

Had the same issue with one I had, enter password, nothing. Did my best to get up with Cannon support, could never get up with them. Wound up ordering a new lock/keypad and had it at the ready for when I was able to get the door back open.

@THE PUNISHER does the lock still time out/lock the pad when you enter the code too many times and just doesn't activate the solenoid?

On my Canon safe, the electronics are actually inside the safe door. All the electronic keypad does is send info to the main board in the safe.

you can not activate the solenoid by shorting across the wires that go from the keypad into the door.

IMG_20200911_070200698.jpg These are the only instructions in the cannon safe book that came with mine. I bought mine 2011, send me a picture of the digital lock the booklet has 3 different locks and instructions for each. These are the instructions for my lock.

Glad I changed mine out before that happened. I still have the old electric lock that was still working, if you think it would help.

Did you change it yourself? Locksmith?
How much was it? I have a Liberty that I want to change the electronic lock to a dial to make it EMP proof.

I've been thinking about doing the same. Main thing holding me back is the speed of getting in with an electronic keypad vs me fumbling with the dial alignment on a traditional lock.

Yeah...I like the speed of electronic...BUT not being able to get into it at all outweighs the speed.
(Tinfoil hat time)---- and if there ever was an EMP....good luck getting into your safe when you just may need the contents the most!

I bought the new dial lock from a gunsmith friend. Installed it myself, pretty easy, but after install had to get him to teach me how to open a dial lock. Not hard but a learning curve for me. He sold me the dial kit for about the same price I could have gotten it on amazon or eBay. I have the part # at home if you want it. I told him what I was going to do and this is what he recommended to me. There is a thread on here about changing from electronic to dial that I read and reread before I did mine. Lots of folks here have done it. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks you.

Do you have that part number?

And possibly the link for the to thread? I'll search..but I never can find what I'm looking for

Seargent & Greenleaf 6730-100. And I’ll look for the thread but I have the same problem with finding an old thread.

I found the thread, “cannon safe keypad to dial combination” search in the search forums tab under the home tab.

You can pre-dial the first 2 numbers so that you only need to do the last two if you are worried about speed.

I have the electronic lock but mine has the key back up and till I read some of the post here I didn't realize this option wasn't on all electronic safes, but seems it should be

Any videos showing how to replace?? I'm not gonna lie...I'm a little intimidated

I looked on YouTube.. couldn't find anything.

Yes there are some YouTube videos. Just Google S&G combination lock replacement. I was worried to death about doing mine. I just watched the video about 10 times and then I had the video going while I was changing my lock. I would pause and rewind as needed. It wasn't too bad and I like the dial lock much better than the electronic one. I bought my S&G online for around $120 delivered.

seeing thread after thread of people having problems with their electronic locks doesn't make me optimistic about getting a new safe...
I'm currently just looking at a "security cabinet" to put my cheaper and less appreciated guns in to make room in the big safe (which has a dial)

You can still get a new safe with a mechanical dial. I know Liberty gives you the option.

Yeah you can...but when I bought my Fatboy years ago...they had a special on the ones with electronic locks..like $500 cheaper if I remember correctly....so obviously that's what I got. I've been meaning to replace it....

Can you set your own combo on a dial lock?? Or is it preset in whatever you buy?

You set whatever combo you want. And you can change it later if you want to tear into the door and go back into the lock.

I have a cannon, and its working, if you need to come check it with your power probe. (unless you checking my thing with your power probe is code)

Won’t even come on, switched out the combo pad on the outside from another one and same thing

My experience with Canon electronic keypad safes was back in 2008 when the garage apartment here at the farm caught fire.

In the pic below, the gun safe was in the left rear section of the downstairs. Here is what it looked like after the fire was extinguished.

I could not get the old safe opened. Canon sent me a new electronic keypad, but that didn't help either. I bought some special "safecracker" carbide drill bits and the safe just laughed at them.

Finally decided to keep on cleaning up the mess and taking down the walls, using a Cat 330 Excavator with a hydraulic thumb. When I went to remove the back wall, the wall swung over and struck the side of the safe, lifting it out of the lead anchors and then dropping it back in place with a jarring thump.

I decided to try the combination lock again and voila - I was able to open the safe.

Apparently the solenoid inside engages into a rotating ring that all of the retention pins are attached to, and the fire caused the solenoid pin to stick in the ring. Jarring the safe broke it loose.

You might want to try jarring your safe a bit to see if that helps the solenoid to unstick itself.

I just changed one out to the Secure Ram Extreme. Not cheap, but best of both worlds. Pushbutton and dial.

What is it made out of? Materials? It looks plastic, I can't tell.

Just watched the installation video. If Christine can do it.....

The one I bought was all metal. Lock works all appear to be good quality.
The wife wanted a smaller bedroom safe, but wanted keypad quick access, I don't trust the electronics and was able to compromise.
I am going to put one on another larger safe and I will try to take some photos of the progress.
Edit: Christine had some help!!
