I need some advise on my LENOVO Laptop. It is one that flips open all the way and can be used as a tablet or a laptop. While my hubby was having computer issues a couple of months ago he was using my spare laptop. It was set up on the Kitchen table and stayed there till his was fixed. during that time something happened that you couldn't close it, it looks like the left hinge quit working or got stuck and now the screen is separating from the back. Some little grommet looking things fell out on the table. So, my question is do I try to have it fixed or can it be fixed and is it worth fixing? It is roughly 4-5 years old and still works. All help and advise welcome.

For general stuff (email, surfing, etc.), I’d consider searching for a cheap Chromebook.

Same thing happened to my Lenovo Ideapad last year. It was only 4 months old at the time. Lenovo support sent me to Bestbuy/Geeksquad for evaluation. They sent the laptop somewhere later and wanted money for the repair. I refused and they ended up fixing it and sent it back without charge. This is the last lenovo for me. For OP, I don't think it's worth it to fix.

My Lenovo did the exact same thing. I'll post pics later.

I tried a Samsung Chromebook and hated it. I returned it posthaste.

My advice is to back up all your files while you still can, and look for a replacement. That's what I would do.

If you go Chromebook, do not buy used unless the seller tells you the expiration date. Chromebooks have an Automatic Update Expiration (AUE) date after which updates will no longer be provided. Lots of people here locally selling units that only have a year or 2 left on them to parents of school-aged kids who are looking for something to do their classwork on.

I spoke with @RS this afternoon and let her know I'd take a look at how hard it would be to fix the problem. I owe her a response by tomorrow.

Wife rule #7-

Whenever I have something about to break I let my husband use it and then he breaks it all the way and I make him buy me a new one.

:)👍

I got both my daughters off IBM lease X1 Carbon ultrathin laptops direct from IBM, 15 month warranty included win 10 solid drive.
Ignore the photo in the ad, it is not accurate but the deal is $435 free ship just add sales tax. 7 days to return it no cost for return ship if you do not like it. Edit: One had the hinge lock up, I called and they sent me a UPS label so return it, took a few weeks as they were in short supply at the time, they replaced it with another one, if they can't they will refund my amex card.

I opened this thread thinking somebody needed help and was getting a bug out bag ready while the page opened...

Nothing to add other than technology is designed to fail and be replaced. It’s just good business to not make it last. Hence why I hate technology.
