So I have a Henry 22 with the Octangonal barrel. Smooth action, love the rifle. I went with the Octangonal barrel as it has a heavier barrel. It heats up quickly though. Much faster than any of my other 22 rifles with smaller barrels. Any thoughts? I don't really rapid fire it either. I plan to get another Henry with a round barrel as well. The way the heavier barrel heats up I was curious if the smaller round barrel would get even hotter.

I had read somewhere that a heavy barrel dose get hotter but takes longer to overheat if that makes sense to you. Hopefully someone with a lot more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

Interesting, seems it would be the other way around. I have a CZ 455 heavy barrel 17HMR, much hotter round but never noticed it heating up as much. Then again, it's a bolt gun that I fire a bit slower.

I know my Henry gets hotter also, but just figured it is because like you said you fire bolt gun much slower. I know my 10/22 gets hot, but I tear through a 25 mag very quickly. My Anschutz gets warm but never hot, to much time between shots.

I have a Henry .22 with a round barrel. Never really paid any attention to barrel heating up, but I love shooting it. It is just a great shooting, smooth operating little rifle.20170813_152858.jpg

I have a Henry 22mag and my shooting sucks rounds 1-10'the same as it does with more rounds so in my experience the barrel heating up doesn't matter. :(

I can't imagine a heavy barrelled 22 getting hot enougn to screw up your shooting. If you are concerned just take a few minutes between groups andnhave a Coke.

I don't let it get really hot, not enough to cause accuracy issues or anything. I usually run a full magazine or two through it then use another rifle while giving the Henry 5 or so minutes to cool with the action open.

Since you have the thicker barrel, the huge heat sink appears to be warmer but I bet it is the same temp as the round barrel rifles.

I have the Small Game Rifle and haven't noticed excessive heat. I haven't really given it a rapid fire workout yet.

Has anyone with an octagonal barrel had issues with glare off the top flat surface? Mine has the Skinner peep sight and I had it at an indoor range with strong lighting over the bench and I was barely able to see the sight. I haven't played with it in the sunshine yet.

If your barrel get hot quickly, slug the bore and find out what size it is.

I use Paco Kelly's AcuRZR to modify 22 bullets to fit a specific bore size. It makes a big difference in accuracy.

If your bore is tight, resizing the bullets with the AcuRZR might keep the barrel from heating up.
